Good luck finding anybody to do it. What is the point of WAMS if they're not doing the programming required now?

Hey thanks, after reading through what was sent, I do in fact need to have someone “program” it. Looks more like it needs to be registered as part of the system. I spent the day calling around trying to find someone that would do it, what I learned was do not ask the dealership they want nothing to do with it. 😂

Oh man, I just went and read the description on the WAMS website for the newer "Global B" series trucks, and sure enough, you need somebody with GM Techline Connect to perform some kind of "marriage" of your new equipment!

While your unit will arrive completely pre-programmed after installation you will also need to have a quick and simple (less than 5 minutes total time once setup and connected in vehicle) final marriage procedure done by a GM dealership or shop with access to GM Techline Connect. We provide detailed instructions in the box on how to accomplish this to give to the dealer and it’s a very simple to the point procedure but necessary due to the enhanced security on these vehicles (and modules).

On our older "Global A" trucks like my 2020, we did not need any dealer programming to be performed.

Hopefully you can find a dealer willing to help you, as I know that some dealerships don't like to do things like that.

They do the main programming.  The end user has to have it "set up" to the vehicle.  This is not on WAMS, this is all from GM changing their vehicle platform protocol.  GM Global A the modules didn't need setup.  Global B they do.  LOTS of things changed when Global B was introduced, and don't expect anything to get easier as the next gen platform is on the way.

So basically it's a waste of time and money trying to make this happen in Global B trucks since dealers won't touch it.

Not at all I was able to find a local shop that has the required program to do it. They even said I could sit in there parking lot to install it myself, because they were so nice I’m just going to pay them to do it for me. This is still worth it in my eyes just requires a little bit more work.

Glad to hear that you found a local shop with the equipment to do it!  You'll love having the steering wheel controls.

Years ago on my 2000 Silverado, I installed the factory fog light kit myself, but needed to have a dealer enable the fog lights in the BCM for the switch to work.  Luckily, I was able to find a Chevy dealer who would do it, but I did have to pay half an hour of labor to get the five minute procedure completed.

Make friends with a dealer tech.  Case of beer or $50 for their time.  Or a shop (non dealer) that has access to ACDelco TDS (which gets them into GM SPS2 to complete this) and the proper J2354 interface like an MDI 2 be it GM or Bosch branded.

One dealership wanted to charge two hours of labor just to marry them together that’s 5 min of work. Unreal to be honest it should not be that hard to have this done.

The dealer I bought my truck from wouldn't even program my GM accessories fog lights because I didn't buy the kit from them, even though I have the code to install that came with the kit.
