2021 Silverado 3.0L Duramax Owners Manual?

Dealer states that I have to buy the supplemental manual for my engine. You're telling me that in order for me to know when to service my vehicle and document it, I have to buy a $60 book after I spent $55k on a pickup?

Is this true? I have the owners manual for all of the gasoline versions, but not the diesel.

Here is a pdf version. It should come with one, you shouldn't be paying for it (my 2021 came with a paper copy).

Mine also came with both the regular owners manual and the 3.0L supplement

(the 6.6 has a different supplement)

Fwiw, I always use the pdf version, since the 'hot links' in if make it easier t jump around in the document.

PDF's for 'main' and 'supplemental' manuals are free and available for many years of vehicle from GM's websites

Sounds like your dealer lost or gave your supplemental manual to someone else and wants you to pay for replacing it.....

You should get all of the paper manuals with your truck for FREE.

I spoke to the customer service manager and they insisted that I had to purchase it, which I refused. She eventually gave in and said that "parts is ordering one and mailing it to me", but she still said that they don't come with one. I again argued the point of needing a freaking service manual and she didn't even care.

This dealership also lost my 2nd key, and are currently mailing a replacement blank that I have to take to my local dealer to have cut/programmed. It's been 24 days since I purchased my brand new vehicle and I still don't have a service manual or spare key. Very upsetting.

It's not a service manual that is free -- it's an owners' manual.

Definitely not the same thing.

Owners manual and diesel supplement can be downloaded free...

The diesel supplemental owners manual comes with it 1000%.

There is an Owners Manual and a Diesel Supplemental which is the service manual.

Thanks everyone else for confirming my suspicion. I'll definitely never go back to that dealership.

Call it what you want, but the supplement is the approx 50 page booklet in the link above.

(mine came with the paper copy of what is linked)

Just like the owners manual, the pdf uses hotlinks which make it easier to navigate around the manual.

It is most certainly not a service manual.

If you went in demanding a service manual (rather than the supplement) I can understand where the issue arose.

OTOH, I gotta agree that some dealers are not worth visiting

-- although sometimes even good dealers have salespersons that are a waste of air.

Since you are clearly hear to troll me, the definition of a service manual: Factory service manuals are the manuals provided by manufacturers which cover the servicing, maintenance, and repair of their products.
I have the Owners Manual, which does not state anywhere in it anything about the maintenance/repairs on my 3.0L Duramax. The supplemental, for the 3.0L Duramax which you linked the PDF to is the service manual. It contains the documents needed to service my engine and when it needs to be completed.
So, kindly go be a keyboard warrior somewhere else.

uess then, by your definition, the regular manual is also a service manual - since it includes maintenance info as well as how to operate info?

Service manual has stuff like wear limits for journal bearings, torque specs for crankshaft mains, sequence for retorquing the head after head gasket replacement etc etc.

Supplement has the maintenance schedule, oil to use etc etc for the 3.0.

Some sort of stuff the regular OM has for the gas engines.

I've had 4 duramax trucks LLY, LMM, LML,L5P and LM2

Every one has included what GM calls the Diesel supplement for the specific year/engine.

None have included a service manual set, but I have coughed up and bought one set.

The set weights about 50 pounds. 8.5x11 or largr pages, and about 20" of shelf space.

Most definitely not include with a truck.

You should have got the 3.0L diesel supplement with you truck.

You should not have got a service manual.

If you were asking for the 3.0L diesel supplement you dealer rep is the problem.

If you were asking for a service manual, that is why there are confused/resistant.

If you want a paper copy of the document in the link, you need to refer to it the way GM does == 3.0L Diesel Supplement.

GM's name for it is right there on the front page:

They've been using that naming convention for 20+ years.

The "3.0L Duramax Diesel Engine Supplement" should of been included with the other booklets, yes it does include when suggested servicing and such but it is "not" a Service manual.

This is what should of been included like others have suggested

Any competent person, like everyone in the conversation except for you, understands that a the owners manual and the supplemental are both service manuals since they both have the steps for CUSTOMER MAINTENANCE in them. I now understand why the dealership was having a hard time understanding what you were asking for.

If you went in asking for a service/repair manual, you were wrong. If you went in asking for the supplemental owners/maintenance manual you were correct.

In the repair/service industry, there are owner/maintenance manuals, which should come with new vehicles for the owners. Then there are repair/service manuals, which the SERVICE departments use to REPAIR the OWNERS vehicle when it's above the pay grade of customers that only MAINTAIN their own vehicles.

Now gtfo of here, now that you know the nomenclature of what your after.
