Hi guys,

I have a question about the AC clutch on my 4.8L 1500

Is it normal for the clutch to spin for a few minutes then stop and then go again even though AC is turned off?

I've noticed the AC shudder (the slight load on engine)that is typical when the AC cycles on and off when in use however this happens when the AC button is not on.

The AC will cycle if the knob is turned to the defrost or the floor/defrost combo.

Agreed. Many don't know that the AC is used to dry the defrost air making it more efficient (even somewhat effective when the engine isn't warm yet) when defrosting the windshield.

where its cycling on and off it may need to be recharged or it could just be the lower temps dropping the freon pressure. if you get a day thats not too cold put the ac on max and the compressor should run continually, if not you can safely give it a boost with a 12oz can and a charging hose. I wouldn't go more than 1 can without having gauges tho, 2 much is worse than not enuff
