Howdy gang...anxiously awaiting the delivery of my '22 2500HD.

Do the LTZ trims come with the LED tail lights?  If so, has anyone re trofitted their LT models to have the LED ones?  My LT trim will be coming with the Z71 Sports Edition package.

If anyone has done this conversion, where did you get the parts from?

Are the license plate lights LED?

Thanks everyone.  Have a great weekend.

Here is the detailed thread:  I went with replacing whole fixtures out to LED in both the front and tail lights.

Lots of good reads there!  Thanks.  Alot of info on doing the fronts.  My truck is already equipped with the HIDs/LEDs up front.  Just want to change out the rears to LEDs.  I'll keep reading and get some ideas.

Thanks Kevin.

The license plate lights are not led.

Every bulb on a 21 Denali is led. Except for those two bulbs. I replaced them with I think a 193 or 194 led bulb.

The way the light fixture is angled up at a 45°, the leds are so bright, it washes out the tailgate camera at night, somewhat.

The washing out effect, isn't bad enough, for me to go back with incandescent bulbs. You can still hook up a trailer.

Is the truck you are ordering an LT or LTZ,  LTZs have both Upscale LEDs in the front and back.  The LTs do not on either side.   You can replace both the front and back with LEDs Upscale.  If you go thru the read (Link) it will walk you thru it.  all you really need is the Upscale lights them selves and the conversion cables.  The rest is plug and play.

Headlight Cable:

19-21 Silverado LED Headlight Harness – Gen5DIY

Tail Light Cable:

2019-2021 GM Truck LED Taillight Harness – Gen5DIY

The cables are the same for the 1500 and 2500 and the upscale tail lights are the same for the 1500 and 2500 as well.   You can get the cables from ebay or other venders, just trying to get you in the right direction.

good luck

Truck has the Z71 Sports Edition which comes with the front LED light set up...same set up as the LTZ trim levels.  So, only interested in doing the tail lights  :)

If your Vehicle is an LTZ, it should already have the Upscale tail lights.

It is the LT trim.  It has the Z71 Sports Edition package, which includes the front LED headlights.

Interesting is that new to 2022, when you select the Sport Edition Package you get LED Headlights?  I just tested it on the site and it is so.

Wow, I am done for the day,  I learned something new.   I guess all you have to do is add in the rear Upscale lights.  The harness is mentioned above.  I would recommend getting the lights off Ebay.  From GM they as like $700 each.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for how they add LED lights to these trucks. Custom gets LED tail lights and LT can get LED headlights if you get the right package. If you want front and rear you have to go up to at least the LTZ trim. Maybe that's the point, it gets people to consider spending more for the higher trims/packages.

Yeah...confusing why the Custom gets them but the LT trim does not.

Do you know if the tail light housing is the same or is it different for the LEDs?

As in the shape/size of the tail lamps?  They are the same.

Cool.  Wasnt sure if the LED ones came with a specific housing and the halogens had their own specific housing.  But they are interchangable?

they are interchangeable but you need the conversion cables I mentioned above..   As a note the 1500 upscale tail lights (LED) fit the 2500 SWD truck as well.

I have an LT and added both front and back upscale OEM LED lights to my vehicle.   The tail change out is pretty easy.

    • Good question, I don't remember for sure but I believe it was the HD. I will check and get back to you.

    • Probably a one and done post, but do you have a CEL on the dash? Was having issues with my transmission, fortunately only a week, and it turned out to be the transmission harness. Valve body was in good shape, so new harness with all the sensors attached, new fluid, and filter. Seems to have worked so far?
    • Two interesting tidbits of information which are NOT related were just released.   One, regarding the possible thrust bearing issues / engine failures with the 3.0. Demonworks just did a segment in which they believe they may have found "a" or "the" cause of thrust bearing failures: A missing thrust bearing. If the engine doesn't have all its thrust bearings from the factory, the missing bearing can cause extra play which ends up destroying a nearby thrust bearing which then sends metal through the engine.       Of other importance, Lake Speed Jr released some interest information regarding oil weight selection for the 3.0. Comparisons of:   AcDelco 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w20 Dexos D Mobil 1 ESP x2 0w30 Mobil 1 ESP x4 0w40. Mobil Delvac 5w40   Spoiler alert: The Mobils are PAO Ester -base and the ACDelco is a Group III base. Mobil shows lower wear in their tests for similar weights. Additive packages between 20-30-40 weight ESP's appear to be the same, but only 0w20 is Dexos D licensed. Wear is even more reduced with 30 and 40 weight ESP although all perform very well and resist shear and provide very similar viscosities within temperature operating ranges in the 3.0.   There are even more surprises, so just go watch it.
    • Hello Guys I'm new to the form,         I just put a 7-inch Rough Country lift on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and I also put a Borla exhaust on it. But I noticed when I'm in park or in neutral and then I rev my truck up really quick there is a bad click noise and I think it's coming from the motor somewhere. Anyways I got a video of it I will attach below I was just wondering if you guys think its rod knock or lifter tick or something like that because I know the AFM kind of made the lifters weak on these trucks.       Thanks!!!!!
