NOISE

I HAVE A TINNEY NOISE THAT DEVELOPES JUST OFF IDLE BEFORE 20 MPH THAT SOUND LIKE A PEICE OF SHEET METAL THAT IS VIBRATING . I CAN'T DUPLICATE THE NOISE WHILE STANDING STILL WITH THE TK IN GEAR AND MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE.

ANY BODY OUT THERE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM OR THE CURE

Got the same noise in the wife's 02 Avalanche. I'd like to know too.

I had an obnoxious noise like that on my HD, looked underneith it, and it was a metal tag that was starting to peel off of the driveshaft. I just tore it all the way off, and problem solved. Might want to check it out.

does it have a 6.0 liter?

band clamp loose on inner exh pipe behind cat/outer pipe is flanged/bolted

best fix is to remove bolt and fip it so you can get a impact on it

the 6.0 has 2 pipes that go into the muffler/the outer pipe is bolted with a gskt,the inside pipe is a slip fit with a 1'' band clamp that is hard to titen cuz you have to do it with a wrench/if you undo the nut and remove the bolt [hard to do cuz it is a carriage bolt] and flip it over you can prperly titen it with a socket

My 03, 1500, 4.8, ext-cab, long bed has an elusive tinny rattle from what seems to be just behind the left front wheel. Never while standing still. At any speed or rpm, but most easily duplicated at about 1700 rpm - any gear. Almost impossible to duplicate the problem with a cold engine. I made an appt with dealer along with another problem. The dealer easily duplicated the problem, tried several things and test drove it many times between, but did not fix it. He wants to try again and will give me a loaner for the day. My opinion -- there is something loose in the left cat. I still need to make the appt.

I had something similar and it turned out to be a loose bolt on the driver's side exhaust manifold shield.

there is a tsb which says to install new band clamps around the muffler

have not seen it help yet

My 1995 developed the same noise, always at 1400 RPM. When I replaced the exhaust it was gone. So like others have said, it probably is in the exhaust.
