I don't think I would worry about it too much. I know under my dash it is kinda orangey now but mostly just surface rust. Try and scrub it off and see what happens. If it doesn't come off then it may be true rust but I think it is just surface

I have just bought a 2004 GMC duramax and found this under the dash. It is also under the seat. Has anyone had this and is it something to be concerned about?

That looks like a flood vehicle with all that rust not normal at all.

I think due to area, high humidity, the age of the truck there are probably lots of them like this. It is raw metal or poorly painted.

If it was a flood vehicle it would have a salvage title already and OP should have known not to touch it with a 9 foot pole.

Not if he bought it off a private owner and made his own repairs. If it was a insurance claim and they totaled due to flood damage then yes a salvage title.

Look at the black plastic back panel with the sticker looks fairly new also the wires and connectors look new.

I hope he got a real good deal on it with that being an 2004 it was the LB7 Duramax which had alot of injector issues and big money to replace as the injectors were internal the LLY Duramax had external injectors which I had that came out as a 2004.5

Who doesn't insurance claim a flood vehicle lmao

I am willing to bet that it is just a high humidity area and not a flood truck. Everything else would look like ****** too if it was.

I agree, he notes that the rust is also under the seat. Flood could also be someone out offroading and burying it in some big puddle. Either way not good.

There looks like corrosion on the silver item with the sticker on it in the second picture.

Don't think a leaking windshield would cause that much rust.

Kids that "fix it good as new" at the quarter car wash. 😂

If ur goin'... keep goin', don't worry about it til it stops.

ETA:

When I was a kid a friend swamped his Mom's Maverick.

Between the high pressure wash & the self serve vac we fixed it up pretty good. Well alot better than we started with anyways.

Truck was from original owner. He had extended warranty on it and had all injectors replaced under warranty. I scrub it off by hand. So I will do what some guys said. Don’t worry. Talked to other guys and they see something
