I noticed brown looking "rust" spots on the chrome trim around all my windows today. Has anyone else ever seen this? I looked at all the other chrome on the truck and these spots arent there. But it is there on every piece of trim around the windows on all doors.

Metal airborne contaminates.

What do you mean? I tried cleaning it with different items and nothing helped. Also, how would it contaminate only the trim around all four doors and nothing else?

On paint most call it rail dust, not sure if that is the same thing you are seeing.

I use a clay bar to get that stuff off the paint.

Here is an image of a section. Its hard to get a better image in the garage out of the sunlight. But like you see the brown dots here, they are all over every bit of the trim around all four doors and no where else. Tried cleaning it and even taking a magic eraser to it and changed nothing.

Possible that some sort of water/sap/chemical was on there and it got burned into the surface from the sun.

But its odd that it is only on the trim around the four doors and no where else. We have no trees around our home or where I work. When Im at home its parked in the garage. I am hoping they replace it under warranty since the truck is 2 mo old.

Ill try to look into that. Good thing I have no sense of smell lol. My wife on the other hand makes up for it LOL super sensitive nose. One of the few times a magic eraser let me down lol

Try using car wax on it first. It acts as a mild buffing compound and I had success getting hard water/soap spots off of plastic chrome trim in the past using Race Glaze. 3M also makes a marine cleaner wax that has more buffing compound in it. It's designed to get stains off of fiberglass boats and RVs, and it works well on our white fiberglass camper.

As a more aggressive measure, I have used brake clean sprayed on a rag to get tough stains off of chrome plated metal bumpers, but I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to try that on plastic that's touching a painted surface as it can eat through the paint. Naptha or mineral spirits could be a viable option, though.

I tried using a clay bar on a small area to see what it would do and it didnt do anything at all. I have some Mequire's Ultimate wax I can see if that helps also. Thanks for the tips.

Def not rail dust. When I had my windows tinted yesterday, he checked and tried to clean that. He is also a detailer. He said he thinks its something under a coated layer instead of on the surface.

This is certainly not what we like to hear.  Please know, customer satisfaction is extremely important to us. Thank you for the reply. I have an appointment scheduled on the 26th with the local GMC dealership. I would assume they will have to order replacements for all four doors. Ive honestly never seen anything like it since the change to plastic trim. If you still want the above requested information, let me know and I can still send it to you.
