Did you have an engine light or just ESC?   Probably need to get codes read.  If you don't have abs light or engine, then probably issue with steering angle sensor or maybe yaw that i believe that is in air bag module (sdm).

Actually it could be just that.  I just replaced the GM steering wheel.  Wanted a leather wrapped one.  Is there something I can do to correct the issue?

If you disconnected the upper ishaft, it could be 180 degrees off.  You probably need to go to dealer and have steering wheel angle sensor zero'd.  You could try spinning back 180 degrees but you could break the clock spring if you go the wrong way.  Breaking the clock spring will cause airbag light.
