Bought a 21, 2500 Duramax last May new so its a 21.  Like the truck but it is missing somethings.  I get employee discount and most likely can trade my truck for what I owe and possibly what I bought it for and order a new one, so really just trading spaces on a 22 that has a few more things I wanted but couldn't get,  basically wouldn't make this deal unless it came out to a zero sum game basically.  But here are some questions and thoughts.

1. love the diesel and I dont want to get rid of it, but am thinking if I went this route it would save me 10k and allow me to get a cheaper truck and or more of a truck vs what I am paying now.  The yeah buts for me is gas prices are about the same and my MPG before winter hit was 15-16 all round average, and the gas motor just wont do that for me.  I also hook 10k-12k to that truck it doesnt care,  the gas motor will it will work just wont be the same.  Ive heard plenty of guys that had diesel and went gas all regretted it.  Ive never owned a gas 3/4 ton and above but have driven them at work, with buddies etc and they just arent the same sorry.

2.  23 I thought is a redesign.  I am thinking about waiting till then,  as while I like my truck interior wise and a few other things this truck is no different than my 2014 I had,  and hate to say it but up through 21 at least GM is about 5 years behind the rest in interior and a few other things.

3.  Lastly it may be a year or two, but eventually everything is going come back to earth.  When it does I feel I may be in a better spot.  I really like to Fords better and the reason Im in a chevy now was I had to buy a new truck and I get employee discount and it was cheaper, whole family including myself either worked or works for GM and have owned their stuff in the past, but to me Ford since about 2012 just has better looking and better stuff.  I also feel when things come down to earth and they might crash, eventually the incentives come back, the economy frankly has to go through a recession at some point.  But Ill have options with all brands I think in  1-3 years.  I got 8k off my current truck from employee discount there were no incentives.  Normal times you can least get 4-5k in incentives.  So I am thinking in 1-3 years beyond getting 8k off for GM products I can probably add at least another potential 5k to the pot with incentives and have 5-10k in equity in the truck to throw down.  Financially seems like more sense to wait.

Based on your post I'd wait until at least 2024.

I have a 2022 on order.  If it gets delayed I'll cancel and wait a few years.

I could.  New model is out in 23 right?  I typically dont like to keep things more than 3-4 years and over 50k miles.  So I have time.

Until it's announced it's speculation.

Could also be like the 1500 and change 1/2 way thru a model year.

1500's plants are changing from '2022 Limited' to '2022 Refreshed' (2022.5?) mid-year.  iirc Silao in Feb, Ft Wayne in Mar.

New model year production 'typically' starts during summer.

That's getting awful close for there to be no official announcements yet.

So much to unpack here ....

If you wait long enough, new truck prices and incentives will eventually come back to "normal". But, your used truck will likely be worth less as well.

10k-12k trailer is probably the tipping point between gas and diesel. Can you tow this with a gasser? Yes.  If you tow in mountains, it will make a difference in power and fuel consumption. Since you like Fords, you might want to check out their gasser (Godzilla) with 10 speed transmission.

In my area (SoCal), we couldn't find a dealership that would honor employee discounts when my brother was searching for a new truck (summer of 2021). I've read similar posts from other parts of the country. Hopefully, that will change over time if things return to "normal".

I don't believe that GM has officially announced when the interiors will be updated/redesigned.
