Has anyone had issues with gas in their oil? Checked oil in 2018 GMC Sierra Elevation and it was over full and smelled like gas. We changed the oil ( which is done regularly) and gave the truck a good highway run. If anyone has ideas what is causing this or has heard of any issues I would greatly appreciate any info. Thanks

Welcome to the site.

There are prior posts on the site, suggesting either bad/leaking fuel injectors, or even the high-pressure fuel pump.

Does you're gas smell like oil 😋

All joking aside though, my oil smells like gasoline as well. Imo I would only be concerned if you're oil level is rising excessively between changes.

I once had the same concerns as you.

Just did on oil change on my 2018 GMC Sierra Elevation 1500 5.3L and after just two days my oil level is a little higher on the dipstick and smells like fuel again. I have read on here and on other forums that it may be a high pressure fuel pump issue. Can anyone please tell me if their covering this on power train warranty?
Also would this not create engine damage due to dilution of oil and manufacturers are so specific about oil changes?  I would have to think that even the slightest fuel dilation in the oil is definitely not good for the engine.

thank you 😊

Fuel dilution is bad.  A little bit happens, but if you are seeing your oil level rise just after changing it, that's bad.  Fuel dilution can wash out engine bearings and cause wear issues, so I wouldn't wait much longer to fix.

High pressure fuel pump falls under emissions warranty, not powertrain.  If you live in a state that follows California Emissions, then emissions coverage would be 3yr/50,000mi from in service date.  If you are not in a state that follows, its 2yr/24,000mi coverage from in service date.

Chances are it will not be covered under warranty, but check with your dealer to make sure.  They will need your VIN number to verify what, if any warranty coverage is left on your truck.

Fighting this on the 2.4 in the wife's Terrain right now. 6.5% fuel by GC and level NOT rising. Breaks viscosity quick. One SAE grade in 2K miles at the level I have. If the level is rising I'd look at that as soon as possible and not go very far between oil changes. It is a bearing killer.
