K3500 Dually LS SWAP

Currently looking at a few K3500 dually's some running some not. I'm brand new to the forum and I'm wondering if anyone has done a 6.0L swap. I'm only interested in swapping a diesel truck if I find a 454 I'd keep it as is. What parts would I need and what would transfer over.

Find a complete take out engine.

 

You need the engine, wiring harness, fuse block, computer and all that junk. You'll need to make the fuel system work with whatever engine you find. Early 6.0's are return fuel systems and later ones are returnless, all that will need to be accounted for. I'd personally stick with a earlier 6.0 that still used drive by cable so you don't need the tac module and APP for the drive by wire system. Like 2000-2002's with aluminum cylinder heads would be best, they are also easy to tune.

 

Not sure what you'd need extra to mate the transmission to the engine, probably a different flex plate if the engine didn't come with one and of course an LS starter.

 

They make swap kits for motor mounts and you may need to modify the driveshafts but maybe not.

Doing a 2000 2500 donor truck 6.0 motor Transmission transfer case swap into a 99 chevy 3500 that had a 454 in it does anyone know what exactly I will need? Both are four wheel drive if that matters

I basically said exactly what you need. You have the engine/transmission/transfer case already. So you also need the wiring harness, fuse block and computer.

 

Figure out the fuel system so you have the correct fuel pressure too. Then it's all the little crap like exhaust work, coolant hoses etc etc etc. Then get it tuned so it can run without the security system.

 

Probably have to measure for driveshafts. This is all pretty straight forward stuff, nobody has the exact list because stuff is always different for every application.
