Rear Diff question...

Color me silly for asking this, but what is the rear clunking in the differential that I hear when the tires slip on ice at launch from a stop? Launch, like I am launching something....basic driving is what I meant. I hear the differential attempting to lock or something, it's just puzzling as I cannot yet find an answer to what seems to be a normal funtion.

Some G80's are noisier than others. I'd consider the "clunk" normal but irritating. If it makes a clattering noise, the clutch plates are slipping.

You could also have loose U-bolts on the leaf springs and/or a bad u-joint on the driveshaft.

I had a Detroit Locker in my '85 Ford F-350 Corn Binder Chassis Cab 2WD. It came with an open Dana so I put in the Locker. That CLANK CLANK CLANK around corners drove me BONKERS.
