I don't get it they just reported that the next Impala SS will have a supergcharged V-6.  Okay, let me see why would it have a V-6, when:

The original plans called for the current body-stle to have a 5.7 LS1 from the Camaro or Vette

Bob Lutz changed the plans, and called on the Comodore SS to be imported as the Impala SS(with  well over 300HP, maybe even the Vettes full 350).

just wanted you guys to know what is really supposted to be going on. You guys have seen the changes Lutz is already making (well, at least in the cars part of GM, Trucks still need some help(AKA SS, and they can get more out of that 5.3).

Nww that site says a supercharged V-6

Now why would they guy had help get the Viper started do something like that.

I know that pontiac is bringing the Holden to the US in '04 which will have a 5.7V8 and RWD.  It's basically to replace the Grand Prix Coupe.  This may be a reason for dropping that one down to a supercharged six (not that there's anything wrong w/ the 3.8V6 supercharged, I kinda like mine).

I'm not sure if the information is correct or not, BUT i'll be the first to say that i know Mr. Farthing very well, and talk to him a couple times a week.  He is usually very good about details, and has connections inside GM that i could only dream about.  He's also a huge supporter of this site.

hehe, ok, thats all from me.  :D

The Holden for Pontiac is going to be the next GTO. But, some interesting info for the next GP: the Coupe will have a longer wheelbase than the 4-dr sedan. , wonder how tehy'll look side by side

I think I've answered this elsewhere;

First things first, the supercharged version is nothing more than an update to the CURRENT chassis Impala/Monte Carlo.

The CURRENT chassis Impala/Monte architecturally DOES NOT support a V8 and RWD due to space limitations and service point requirements.  IN order for them to do such a revision would require serious cash outlay for a redesigned floor pan and engine cradle as well as re-tooling for the assembly plants.  This is why you are getting a supercharged V6 in the interim.

NOW, when the next generation Impala/Monte arrives, it will be designed from the ground up with a V8 and RWD in plan.  Primarily based off the Holden designs, which are based off the Sigma chassis.

So to sum it up, the current supercharged V6 option will be a tide over for the current generation UNTIL the next generation arrives.
