Will a 2008 5.3 drop in a 2001 or 2005 that have 5.3's in them?

Nope.

It fits but that's about it. Everything about that engine is different. The crank/cam triggers are different, MAP/MAF/Intake/Injectors/knock sensors/AFM system and all that stuff on a 2008 engine is different than a 2001 or 2005.

If you want a direct replacement you need to source a 2000-2007 GEN 3 engine.

  Didn't I read where if Gm does the valve body on the "Allison", you get a 10yr/150k warranty? Kinda wish mine has a minor blip around 24k. Get a free trans service, and a pile of warranty.
