Potential brake kit

i was on the phone about to order the praise dyno kit..but i thought..why would i spend 800 for the same darn size rotors... i know they are great brakes, but not for 800!!!

so i thought.. save some money..buy a big brake kit, like Brembo, Stillen, etc... cost is upwards of $2500. still kinda excessive.

then, back to my original idea, Porsche brakes.

14.1" rotors whish would need adapter plates (can be done) and new 4/6/8 piston calipers. i got a guy who can hook me up with these components. and finally pads.

now, im not 100% sure, but the new Cayenne uses the same calipers as the 911 GT2, six piston monobloc aluminum fixed calipers. As most of u would think, these brakes are made for a car..but also used on the Cayenne.. and include the fact that porsches are driven hard and fast (much more than my burban will ever see) they do an excellent job in stoppin.. soo this would technically work for my burban! Right??? give me ur thoughts on this..i want to see what ya'll think..ohh, and for about $1300 total.

I put Stillen rotors and pads on the front of my 1995 Yukon, and Raybestos Brute Force drums and shoes in the rear, and I was very happy with the results. Less than $1000.

I just don't think the Porsche rotors are going to make a Sub stop like a Porsche. Master cylinder, computer, ABS, brake lines, and the weight is still GM. Porsche brakes are designed for Porsches, which weigh a lot less and have different characteristics. The rotors on my car (Ferrari) are tiny, and would warp from heat the first time they were used on anything bigger. On that car, they can handle hard and fast, but the weight is 1/2 as much. But I would love to have the car's stopping power in my Yukon. Maybe there is a system from another truck that could be adapted. Even GM vans seem to stop much better (from experience).

I am not trying to talk you out of it, but there may be that one "gotcha" that none of us know about, that may happen after you have spent the money. I would prudently go with Brembo, Stillen, or another truck brake. They have done the testing and research.

My dad had some Brembros on his suburban, it went through pads very fast. usually around 25K. That was without towing also. He did have a supercharger, and got on it once in a while, but mostly it was just normal driving.

Just posted reply to your same question over at PacificA and add to Mule's comments over here...he's covered pretty much everything posted over there except tire dia.

Most sports car tires are in the 24 inch dia range. Stock Suburban tire dia is 30 inch and know you've gone after market, so maybe even larger than 30" dia. This will have the rotor spining slower and part of the braking equation is FPM. Also cools better/faster on a car's smaller dia tire, as it spins faster and vented rotors are just centrifagul fans...which means spining faster equals more air to cool'm.

Other is heat sink mass, routing and surface area. Big difference for approx 3.5K lb car vs approx 5.5K lb truck.

My recommendation is to go with Praise Dyno. Has improved many truck's performance. Speeder over a Pacific now has his Tahoe out stopping many cars weighing half and just by going to Praise. Known 38% higher coefficient of friction, therefore 38% more braking power.

Here's picture of how much heat can be generated on a K2500 Suburban's front rotors. Heat stress cracks. Usually wears away down to solid metal, but these continued till cracked clean through. These are OEM and had seen Bendix, Raybestos and Performance Friction pads. My "new" ART cyro/slotted now have similar after seeing: Praise Dyno, NAPA HD Ceramic, Wagner HD Carbon Metalic. The Praise Dyno are hands down better than any of the above tried on same vehilce. By significant amount.

thanks again for the info.. very good stuff... but im kinda bent on gettin some bigger rotors and better calipers.. like i said before, praise is the way to go. i am still open to that, just not now. i still have descent brakes.

also, did some lookin at stillen's Statix brake kit. anyone heard of it, performance of it, good bad???

i was lookin thru ur website, awesome pics man!!! love the truck, but what is the file on "wonderful kids stealin" i saw the pics, did they take ur valve caps??? i hate that!!! i loose sets off my 22's all the time, people freakin HATE!!!! ohh well... did u go out and catch those little brats, give em a beatin or two??? hha
