Oil leak with 150 miles? 2022 2500 gas

Hi all,

 

First post. Didn’t see a welcome thread so just going to start here. 
 

day two with my new truck, which I am loving btw. Really like the looks and just seems like a good truck overall. 
 

so I decided to go underneath and snoop around like any guy would under his new truck and I noticed a bit of oil hanging off the bottom of the filter and a bit on the bottom of the pan as well.  Hmm not going to worry yet. Maybe a bit came down the filter upon assembly? It’s not loose but could it be gorilla tight! And odd it’s on the pan too?

 

I will attach a few pics. Anyone see this before?

Plenty of times. New vehicle or not it is something that can happen with oil filter seals.

 

I'd just clean it up and check back in 100 miles, if it leaking again then the filter should be swapped.

Yeah that’s what I did. Wiped it all clean and will re check. I’ll update

I believe there was a bulletin stating that the original spec was snug, then 3/4 turn; it was updated to snug, then 1 full turn.

Good info thanks! I’ll crawl under there tomorrow and see what I see. Only been about 20mi though

Saw that on mine too when first looked, at 600miles. I agree with CamGTP.

I always do an early oil change on a new vehicle anyway. And hand tight, which for me is pretty tight, has always been good. I’ll go under tomorrow to see. 
 

I will say I’m liking the mileage so far. Drive back from the dealer returned 14.4mpg which was 65-70 which for having under 10 miles on it is awesome for a 7k plus pound truck. 
 

my last truck I also bought new and it was a Tundra and that only got like 11.2mpg in its maiden voyage. Granted that was during the winter but still. 
 

today I touched 20mpg going 65-68 for the few miles I had to go. I’m impressed and the truck only has 160 miles now.

I’ve been regularly getting between 17.5 and 18.0 mpg (indicated overall trip average) on a long drive i repeatedly make on rolling, sea level terrain aiming to stay around 65-68 mph.

So I don’t think any oil is leaking. It is all bone dry after wiping that oil off. I’m glad to report that.

I am not sure. Truck is brand new. Took possession with 7mi on it. Not sure why some oil was on the bottom of the filter and a bit on bottom of the pan too. It hasn’t returned so it’s not leaking. Which I’m thankful for.

Mine is still dry so I know mine isn’t leaking. No clue why it was there probably from factory but since I wiped it off it hasn’t returned.

So I was watching this TFL video on their new ZR2 Silverado and at 7:20 in there is a bit of oil on the bottom of the filter and they mention it. Same as mine had from the factory. Weird.
