Got an email the other day from GM about extending the warranty on my 2019 new style Silverado. Bumper to bumper is up in late November, and it has 26k on it currently. It's been flawless so far, just the Trans flush and refill with the updated fluid (TCC shudder, fixed).

There are varying year/mileage coverages/2years 30k miles up to 6 years 72k miles.

Does anyone, mechanics or otherwise have any experience, good or bad with this?

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Extended warranty (for any product, not just vehicles) isn't being offered because they think they will loose money on it....

To start, it is cheaper to purchase the warranty when you buy the vehicle. With all the electronics and new technology in these vehicles, and if you plan on keeping the vehicle longer than the manufacturing warranty, purchasing an extended warranty if from the right company can be a good idea. The plan from Chevy is a good one but many dealerships offer different plans. My dealership offers the plan from Zurich while others just offer the GM Protection Plans. I'd be more inclined to purchase from the dealership that the vehicle came from than from the mail. It might be the GM plan or just made to look like it. You can check pricing or compare costs with your dealership. There are dealers that sell plans at a discount and those can usually be found on like the Corvette Forum etc. If you sell the vehicle with a protection plan, some plans allow the transfer of the plan or you may get a refund based on a percentage. Some say extended plans are a waste and some say they are a financial saver.

I've purchased the GM extended warranty on every new vehicle we have purchased since 1992, and I am glad we did.  No major problems but just some irritating stuff and all problems were ultimately found, repaired and paid for by the factory backed extended warranty.  In the end, I have either broke even or come out ahead.

When the original GMPP warranty expired on our 2004 TrailBlazer, I compared coverage between a AAA Platinum Level extended warranty with the best GMPP extended warranty I could get.  Well, the AAA coverage was identical and several hundred dollars less.  When I had a problem with the AC, the AAA warranty came through and according to the Service Manager at the Chevrolet dealership I dealt with, they, the AAA warranty folk, were very easy to work with and did not question any of the parts or labor charges, and he was pleasantly surprised.

Now, since we had to purchase a 2022 Silverado in order to replace our stolen 1999 Silverado, I went ahead and purchased a AAA Platinum warranty for 7 years and 120,000 miles for about 1/3rd less the the best price I could find on a GM factory backed warranty and and 1/2 less than the dealership's favored extended warranty (even at dealership cost which the finance guy offered, the AAA warranty was over $1000 less).  Again, coverage is the same between the 3 products.

So, if one belongs to AAA, check out the vehicle extended warranties/vehicle service contracts.  You just might save some significant cash.

I favor the factory extended warranties. The dealer I bought my truck from is also a Toyota dealer. They only offer the Toyota extended warranty on all vehicles they sell.
GM dealers can price the factory warranty at different levels. Check around and you may save a few bucks. I have bought my last three from Dennis Fichtner at Laurel Chevy, [email protected]

Another that sells at a discount is Todd Southerland at MacMulkin Chevy. They specialize in Corvettes but sell for all GM products.

However purchasing the EX warranty when new is almost a waste of money depending on how many miles you drive. I could have purchased a 5/60 for my truck new at around $1500 when I leased it. I will be up on time before mileage on my 3/36 I got with the truck. Now if I had gotten the 5/60 I would be paying $1500 for only 2 years coverage. As it turns out I purchased my lease and decided to get the 5/60 EX warranty on it. I got the $100 deductible (which is 0 if I take it to my dealer) for about $1800. Now I'm covered to 2027 and 72K miles.
