I have a question. I have a 6.2 Tahoe with 308 gears, I am thinking about swaping gears to a 4.56.... I have a 7 inch lift, 22rims, with 35 mudd tires.... Can anyone give me there thoughts on this or if its worth it... The tahoe has a 10 speed trans.... I am really only doing it to protect the trans and motor as much as possible, just because I dont think they making trucks/suvs like they use... Am I wrong? pros and cons with going to 4.56 on a 6.2 with 10 speed trans??????

It isn’t necessary. I was a prolific gear changer and modifier. I wasn’t much on oversized tires. Will it perform better? Of course. The key to longevity is right foot related mods or not. If you’re unhappy with initial take off, gearing will take care of that.

Thanks for your information... I Guess I thought re-gearing it to 456 would help the moto and transmission last longer.... Is this not the case? Just don't know much about the reliability of 6.2 and 10 speed trans....

The Yukon gears/Job price is 5,800, just trying to figure out if its worth it... the tahoe has 70k miles. Would love to get 155K miles out of it with out Trans or motor issues ... is the reason I was thinking about doing this.

I would save the money for repairs. 456 gears will make the motor rpms increase so is it better over the long run?

If I wanted to improve performance 373 is good enough. Lower rpms less wear.

It will have zero effect on engine longevity.  Transmission effect would be minimal.  Also, your only going from a 33" tire to a 35" tire which is almost nothing, a 2" difference.  If you currently have 3.08's, then approximate 3.27 gearing would get you back to stock "feeling" acceleration.

If it was me, I would take a rear end out of a silverado (3.23) and be done.  But then again, going from a 3.08 to a 3.23 seems almost useless anyways.
