5 year Brake Fluid Change Interval (!)

Recommended Posts

The factory recommendation for brake fluid changes in the 2019+ Silverado is every 5 years. The earliest of the 2019's should be coming due soon in 2024 unless a few shipped in 2018... How many of you have already changed, or plan to change (flush) your brake fluid at 5 years?

A Jeep I own is also listed as every 5 years. I'm working on 15 years and have changed it every 5, and the fluid and reservoir are still translucent and clean looking.

A year 2001 Camaro I saw recently had its original brake fluid from (22!) years ago. It was almost black. I can only imagine how that would do under extreme braking.

I have a ‘21 but I fully expect to follow the owners manual on these types of intervals.  It’s cheap insurance to avoid larger problems.  No guarantee but it can’t hurt.

I received a suggested reminder for my 2019 from my dealership following an unrelated service,  quoting the brake fluid flush. Can't remember but I believe they quoted $179 but might have been $149.....can't find the email now. I'm at 4 years w/ 30K miles. I'll have it done next year.

Living in the desert is tough on everything. I changed my coolant, tranny, brake fluid and diffs/t-case out at 50k miles. I'll do the same rotation at 100k or so. I'm also harder on my truck than the average.
