I have a 2011 sierra 1500. I’ve went through this reduced engine power thing for a whileeeee now, over 3 years. At first I’d get R.E.P. and stabilitrack errors. I’ll always be able to stop the truck for about five or 10 minutes and the error would go away and I could drive again. eventually, it went into reduced engine power mode, and it would not get out of it. I changed the throttlebody, the throttlebody pigtail, and that didn’t work. I finally ended up changing the accelerator pedal and that stopped the issue for about a year.

Recently, it started doing it again, but I don’t have the stability track errors this time. And unlike last time where it would do it randomly if I was driving or parked idling, it only goes into reduced engine power mode when I’m stopped idling and it is hot outside. Doesn’t do it in the winter or fall, just the summer. It also doesn’t do it if I’m moving. It’s usually after about 7-10 min of idling. If this happens, I turn the truck off and wait 5-10 min and crank it and I’m good to go, although the engine light will be on until I park it overnight.

any thoughts??

First time I ever heard of this. I suspect a thermal connection, meaning something is getting hot and sending the wrong info to the ECM or the ECM is faulty. It could be corroded grounds, remember, crazy electrical problems can be caused by bad grounds. I imagine crazy (wrong) codes being set, and performance like you have.

You should have bought a Tech-2 to solve this problem 3 years ago.  It would have shown you all the codes, the failure records and allowed you to perform tests before throwing money at the problem.

Do you at least have an OBDII adapter and an app on your phone to look at engine codes?  Which motor is this?

I know its probably late but i had this same issue. Take the intake off and clean the throttle body, Push it back and clean out all the gunk and make sure the plate goes back to flat. The gummed up carbon and dirt causes it not to fully close and tells the Throttle body position sensor its not right and causes the engine power issue
