I am looking at a "new" 2022 truck at a dealership if I can get them down to a reasonable price. My question is how much better is the LZ0 duramax vs the LM2 version, if any?

Also whats a reasonable offer on a '22 model since the '24 models are hitting lots now.

The truck I am looking at:

All '22's were LM2 -- both limited version and refreshed version.

LZO is 'new' for 2023 model.

Which version is the '22 you're looking at?

The one I am looking at is the refresh. I was just wondering if the LZ0 is worth getting in a '23 if I can get a decent deal on the leftover '22.

Jricharc, I have the LM2 and love it, but am chomping at the bit to get the LZ0, just because it got the hp and tq bump for the '23s+.  Just something to think about!

Let me tell you, I owned a 21 RST Z71 LM2 for 2 years and put about 80k miles on it, loved that truck but had a persistent CEL that wouldn't stay off (IMO was a harness issue dealership could never fix). I traded it for a 23 trail boss with LZ0 and have about 25k now. I use the truck consistently for work doing lots of highway mixed with city/slow parking lot driving. Used both trucks exactly the same.

LM2 seemed quicker off the line, felt peppy. LM0 not as much.

LM2 I could get 3 days before having to fill up (would maybe have 1/8 tank of fuel left). Averaged 22.8 mpg I think lifetime.

LZ0 I get 4 full days of work before fill up (with 1/8 or less left), so I get a full extra day of driving. I think the lifetime average is 24 in that truck, but real world to me is how often I fill up.

Best ever 50 mile average for both was 37.1 MPG, took months to achieve in the 21, took less than a week in the LZ0.

LM2 was ultra quiet - LZ0 has more "diesel" sound but still quieter than a 6.5 Diesel.

My personal opinion, the EGR/Emissions system on the LM2 was flawed and completely changed in the LM0 for a reason. That may be bias as that is the trouble I always had with my LM2. Given the choice, spend  just a tad more and get the new motor.

I can't speak to the differences between the two motors, and I've only had my truck a little over a month and 2K miles, but I am absolutely impressed with the baby Duramax in my 24 Sierra 1500.  Coming from my 2017 Canyon Denali with the 3.6 liter V6 obviously the 2024 Sierra is a big step up in space, tech and comfort.  The improved fuel mileage is wonderful and with Max Tow, I have so many more towing options.  I also love the little "diesel rumble" from the motor at idle.  Let's hope the "honeymoon" lasts for years.
