Painted wheel arch molding vs non-painted wheel arch molding

Are painted wheel options more prone to chip or fade over time versus the standard non-painted wheel arch molding?

Just curious of any feedback from anyone who has owned a truck with painted wheel options...

Chipping?  Oh yea.  Fade?  Less likely for painted as you can wax/ceramic over them, but there are coatings and ceramics you can apply to plastics now to prevent fading.

8600 miles on mine so far and I do not have any chips. I have not taken it off road yet though. In my opinion they make the truck look a lot better.

26k miles on mine, I have taken mine off road/4 wheel in snow/mud. Weirdly, no chipping on any of the arches. 

 

I have more chips on my front bumper than anywhere else on the truck.

35k miles on mine and no chips at all. I drive lots of dirt roads. I assume it’s because it’s painted plastic instead of hard metal that helps prevent chips. My front bumped has tons of chips. I love the painted wheel arches. It makes the wheel wells appear smaller. Do it. You won’t regret it.
