Just had my windshield replaced today. Thank you Safelite!

Thank you lord for having glass coverage on our insurance policy.  0 deductible too.  Final cost was 1143 bucks....holy crap!!  I thought it cracked from body flex due to the beating we took on our last big adventure towing our camper 3300 miles to Maine.  Nope, it started from what looked like a BB sized small hit then cracked to the top of the windshield then ran south below the rear view mirror.  I'm thinking it was one of those damn black flies up there in Maine that like to wear helmets.  Bitey hard headed little bastards...lol....

You should have just slathered your crack with silicone like we all slathered our tailgate holes. Probably used half a tube for the holes and half for the windshield haha

No and I still haven't slathered my tailgate holes either....lol...Although I probably will plug them, the thought of that tailgate banging off the front jack on our camper has been a thought of mine.  That would totally suck...especially if we were cruising down the highway making turns and had no idea the tailgate was open.  Or would we????  Would I get a message that the tailgate is open?

I would recommend just throwing the truck in reverse on occasion going down the freeway. You will then see the view and know if the gate is down

You must have gotten a deal! Mine was $1400 for a factory replacement. Luckily I have a $0 deductible. (Do you have the lane departure assistance, or w/e it's called? That might explain the price difference.)

To add insult to injury, that was a month ago. Yesterday a friggin boulder slammed my windshield and I have to make another claim. The old claim is still open... LOL!

I feel that my 1st windshield was inferior. But the hit yesterday would have cracked bulletproof glass! So I can't comment on the strength of that windshield. Maybe 3rd times the charm...

Mine’s cracked too, ‘bout to put in a Safelite claim too. Last time it took ‘em 3 weeks to get it done. But it’s okay..

Yes, all modern vehicles have a lock out disallowing them from going into reverse or park.

Let me try to catch up here.  That was the price on the sheet from safelite..  I've had numerous windshields replaced over the years...safelite was alway my go to.

They were ready before we were.  And we live in Atlanta to where everything is delayed.  Please never shift into reverse while going down the highway......damn you @Pryme lol

I've always used Safelite too. My sheet quoted $1,400 for OEM replacement. I paid $0, but that's the most expensive windshield replacement I've ever had. Since your sheet quoted a lot less I was wondering if it was the same windshield. I have the Lane Departure Warning System which required the tech to connect his computer to the vehicle and I also have the HUD. I don't know if those options would be the reason for the difference in price of the windshield between us.

Location could be another factor. I'm out here in the boonies of the Rocky Mountains. I contract all over the country and the fast food here is even more expensive than a lot of places. It takes a week+ for the local dealer to get my windshield shipped in.

Your options might be the reason, I only have collision avoidance on mine.  The tech told me he had to recalibrate my system and that took him 2 hours to do.  So maybe that's part of it, could be more regional too if you're in the Rockies.
