Which transmission does your 1500 have, Sandy, the 10 speed?

If the 10 speed, you know about as much as the rest of us do, it appears GM has not provided anyone (consumers or their own franchise dealers) with an ET of when these valve bodies might be available.

Given that GM continues to manufacture 1000's of new vehicles, every day, with the 10 speed transmission, and all those new builds of course require a valve body, it certainly appears to us owners that GM is prioritizing new vehicle sales for dealer stock and customer orders over providing replacement parts for current owners. While perhaps not surprising, since GM makes no money on replacement parts covered under warranty, it is incredibly frustrating for existing owners.

We have a 8speed transmission.  Still no eta on the part.

I’ve replaced two valve bodies in six months and 15k miles driven on my 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 diesel w/10 speed transmission. Power train warranty paid for the repairs, but I’m out thousands for rental cars and even an airline ticket. My dealer seems indifferent.

Geez, I wondered if anyone had their valve body fail more than once.  Disappointing.

How long ago where the VB's replaced, Jim? How long did both repairs take from failure to replacement? Do you have the VB part numbers that were used from the paperwork of both repairs?

Thanks for posting the P/N's, Stan. I trust it's working properly now.

Last update I had from the dealer was on 01/02, still no ETA for the VB. Relayed that to GMCS, who replied promptly and thanked me for the update. GMCS, while kind and sympathetic, has not been able to move the ball forward.

Yesterday I opened a case with BBB's "Auto Line" service. We'll see.

Stumbled into this forum and post doing some research after I fell victim to the same problem. 2023 Silverado 3.0 duramax with 32k on the odometer after it threw the code on me Monday morning January 6th and wouldn't go in reverse. Got it to the dealership and sure enough it's the valve body. This is an absolute shame, second time this truck has left me in limp mode, first time was a nox sensor. I've been driving Chevy trucks for 30 years and this was my first new truck purchase, looking like my last.

Joined this sub, solely for this topic. I have a 23 trailboss with the 3.0 and the 10-speed. One day I had a random hard downshift, I figured I just confused the transmission with accelerating and then taking my foot off the pedal. One week later, my truck acted like a 16-year-old learning how to drive a stick shift. CEL came on and limp mode. The dealer said it was the valve body and it'll be a 3 month wait. Luckily, a classic Chevy dealer had the part (no idea why) and I was back on the road in 5 days. The part number they put in is 24065353. I'm hoping this is a redesigned part and not the same part that's gonna fail again at 20k.

To make matters worse, 2 weeks after getting my truck back, I had another random hard shift. It's when I'm lightly accelerating, and then let off the gas. It wasn't extreme, but you can definitely feel it shift.  Has anyone else experienced random harder-than-normal shifting, or had their replacement valve body fail again? I can't even enjoy any new truck because I'm just waiting for the transmission to fail again.

Well,  it's happened to me. I have a 2022 trail boss. It doesnt quite have 14,000 miles on it. It showed no signs then all of a sudden I lost reverse.  Luckily,  there was a chev dealer a few blocks away.  I started to drive to the dealer and it started the jerking. After over three hours, they tell me the problem. All I did was Google the problem and found thousands of people with the same issue over 4 years.  How I have never heard about this issue is beyond me.  My pickup has regular oil changes and service at a chev dealership.

Is there anyone out there that had this issue and didn't have to wait months?

I live in MN. It looks like our lemon will help me but not until after 30 days.

I have emailed GM and waiting to hear back from them.

Do I call our state Attorny General? Do I contact my lawyer? Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

What exactly did the dealer tell you? Codes? What engine and what transmission do you have ?There is a PI that came out on 1/8/25 where a snap ring comes out of the input internal gear and allows the overdrive sungear to seperate and then you loose reverse. Usually sets p2714 code.Thats not the valve body. Yours may still need one for the momentary lock up condition. Good luck.

Call Gm don't wait for a call back. After (I think) 14 days they will a) reimburse for a rental or b) reimburse your payment, not both. I am on month 3 waiting and they have been reimbursing my payment since Nov.20 1st payment reimbursed was Octobers payment.  I have a  2021 Silverado 6.2 10 speed, went to shop on 10/20/24. Just spoke to them today they call or e mail 1-2 times a week there is no eta on the valve body yet.

Hello all,

Just stumbled upon this thread and also joined just for this topic (wow, on page 16).

I have a 2022 Silverado 1500 LTZ with 5.3L, 10 Speed and 32,000km (20,000miles). Going on 4 weeks since the truck entered the local dealer (Dec 16th) and still no ETA on the Valve Body replacement. My issues came suddenly. One of the only time that i had parked in a parking lot without pulling through (parked in front of a guard rail). When it came time to put it in reverse, it didn't want to engage. It just wanted to go forward. I left it there overnight and returned the next morning, pulled it out of the parking and drove it to the dealership a km away. Didn't shift properly on the way there.

I have a 2023 Silverado 1500 LTZ with the 5.3, 10 speed transmission.  I have experienced a minor shutter under light acceleration at times but the software update seemed to remedy the issue.  It is currently at the dealer waiting for a valve body.  At 15,600 miles, the failure happened with no warning.

I was driving 35 MPH when the RPM's started to go up.  I was in disbelief at first.  I let off the throttle and gave it throttle again.  The transmission starting slipping and then I felt a harsh engagement.  The check engine light came on (P0700, P0776,P0797) and a message stated "Limited acceleration".  When I got home, I went to put the truck in reverse to back into my driveway.  No reverse gear.  I called Onstar and had the truck towed to the dealer.  They are estimating 2 months for repairs due to replacement valve body being on back order.  I was told that GM used a plastic check ball (Instead of a metal one).  He said the check ball will get sucked up into the valve body causing a pressure drop.    One of the reasons I decided to buy a new truck instead of used was for reliability ($68,000.00 mistake?).

They put me in a Chevy Malibu from Hertz until the truck is fixed.  I appreciate them supplying me a rental but I need a truck.  Hertz told me the don't have any chevy trucks because chevy bought back all of their trucks during the pandemic at a premium price to sell on the lots.  He also said that because I am getting a rental for warranty repairs, Chevrolet requires them to use a GM product for my rental.  I am looking at all of my options at this point.

Mine is fixed. Although I took it in on 12/01 the dealer wasn't able to diagnose it until 12/10, and dealer called on 01/13 advising it was ready, so just over a month. As I posted before, below are the actions I took:

  • Opened a case with GM Customer Care via email. [email protected]  12/12/24
  • Opened a case with NHTSA, since a failing/failed transmission has the potential of being a safety issue. 12/12/24
  • Opened a case with the Better Business Bureau's "Auto Line" service.  01/06/25
  • Posted on GM's Facebook page. 01/09/25

I don't know if any of the above helped. I do know as soon as I completed opening the case with BBB on 01/06/25 I received a call from the GM Customer Resolution Center (I believe that's what they called themselves) the very next day. I also know that when the service advisor called on 01/13 to tell me it was ready, and I told him I was surprised, he said something like "I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease". I don't know if that means GM expedited the part and the repair for my truck ahead of others at the same dealer or if it was just a coincidence. If the former I have to admit I feel a little bad that my incessant whining got my truck fixed before others that were waiting for the same part for as long, or longer, than mine.
