Mine is fixed. Although I took it in on 12/01 the dealer wasn't able to diagnose it until 12/10, and dealer called on 01/13 advising it was ready, so just over a month. As I posted before, below are the actions I took:

  • Opened a case with GM Customer Care via email. [email protected]  12/12/24
  • Opened a case with NHTSA, since a failing/failed transmission has the potential of being a safety issue. 12/12/24
  • Opened a case with the Better Business Bureau's "Auto Line" service.  01/06/25
  • Posted on GM's Facebook page. 01/09/25

I don't know if any of the above helped. I do know as soon as I completed opening the case with BBB on 01/06/25 I received a call from the GM Customer Resolution Center (I believe that's what they called themselves) the very next day. I also know that when the service advisor called on 01/13 to tell me it was ready, and I told him I was surprised, he said something like "I guess the squeaky wheel gets the grease". I don't know if that means GM expedited the part and the repair for my truck ahead of others at the same dealer or if it was just a coincidence. If the former I have to admit I feel a little bad that my incessant whining got my truck fixed before others that were waiting for the same part for as long, or longer, than mine.

You shouldnt feel bad about anything. Anything you did to get your truck back was warranted and it is ridiculous that anyone is put into the position that their truck has to sit for 3 months while parts are on backorder. There should be a penalty for GM for stringing people along. They are building new trucks with new valve bodys but making customers who purchased trucks for top dollar wait for months? This is a terrible situation and some people will not buy GM products again.

I have a 21 custom with 6.2  - last Monday I felt something skip and engine power reduced came on shortly after but I stopped and went inside the grocery store..tried to leave but the thing wouldn't move in reverse..dealership told me valve body yesterday and they don't know when it'll be fixed....texted salesman right away and bitched about needing wheels cuz a rental for 5 days ain't gonna cut the mustard...

I guess I was a lucky one.  My 23’ Chevy  1500 with the 3.0L got to 111,000 miles before my trouble started (95% interstate miles).  It just boggles my mind that these transmissions can’t last over 150,000 miles, let alone what some of you have experienced with some of these low mileage nightmares.

I haven’t found an answer but did GM make any changes to the valve bodies they’re replacing us with or is it the same exact part with the same exact manufacturing?

The service guy said the part number was different on the valve body they just replaced in mine. Not sure if that means they've changed the design or if it's just being sourced from somewhere else.

I’m half tempted to buy the next gen overhaul kit and install it to make sure the transmission lasts.

A technician won't know until they open it up, but if your truck is still under warranty installing that kit will void the drivetrain warranty.

I agree, but I don't believe technicians are opening up valve bodies. More than likely removing and tossing it. Either way, I won't do it until the warranty is up.

Add another one to the list. I bought a new 2024 Sierra 5.3 in May of 2024. It has been in the shop now for over 40 days with no end in sight.

The dealership was trying to put me in a Chevy Malibu at first. I declined it and waited for a loaner truck, which I now have, but I had to sign a waiver that I can't take it out of town. I do a lot of interstate driving so that creates an issue for me.

I have started a case through BBB auto line and spoken to GM twice. They were supposed to call me back last Thursday/Friday and never did. I called today and found out they transferred my case to someone else. She says she's going to call me back by Friday with a resolution.

I also spoke to a Lemon Law Attorney this morning and have a retainer to sign in my email. We'll see what GM says Friday, but if I don't hear from them or they don't provide an acceptable resolution, I'm signing it and moving forward with the lawsuit.

Same problem here on my 2024 GMC sierra 1500 10spd 12,000 miles. On Tuesday morning  block away from my hotel check engine light came on and engine power was reduced message. Got it back to my hotel since dealership wasn't open yet and it wouldn't go into park or reverse. Had to put on my emergency parking brake and it sat for 2 hours until they were open. Drove it 3 miles to dealership and it was shifting fine this time including park and reverse. Got a call back on Thursday saying my valve body needs to get replaced but is on backorder🤦‍♂️. I told them i needed a truck to drive on my job sites and they gave me a loaner thru hertz which was a f150 since dealership didn't have anything available. After reading everyone's experience I really hope it doesn't sit there for 3 months. Do they order the new one that was fixed or should i be worried about getting the original and be back to square one? Will update as I hear from them.

Update, has been 57 days since I dropped my vehicle off at the dealership and still no word or ETA and when I asked about a transmission replacement last week they flat out said no GM wants us to replace the part. So I guess the wait continues🤦‍♂️

This post makes me furious. 2024 1500 wt, 5.3, MHT 10 speed. I took it to the dealer 3 days ago for a random tick and a bad rattle noise under certain conditions. Just bought this truck 2 weeks ago, has just under 600 miles on it. Got a call today, was told tick is engine related, rattle was transmission related. I was told this particular engine/transmission combo was more reliable than the others, currently, but now I’m beginning to doubt everything I’ve been seeing/hearing. If the truck is still in the shop next Friday, I’ll be contacting a lemon law attorney; they already sold the truck I traded in, it was riddled with transmission problems. That was a 2020 4.3/6L80. GM is horrible. Dealer opened a case on my truck because of the potential catastrophic failures these noises could be. GM is going to lose all its customers with this absolute worthless excuse for quality. Ford’s coyote doesn’t have these issues….I wonder why? Stellantis has these issues…..BECAUSE THEY USE THE SAME PARTS. GM tried this poor excuse of fuel saving technology in the 80’s and every car was deemed a total failure. Did the idiot big wigs learn nothing? I bought a truck to work, NOT FOR FUEL ECONOMY, and ESPECIALLY not to sit in the shop and constantly need attention. While I waste money on it. This is absolutely ridiculous.

I just joined the Valve Body Replacement club this past month.  2021 Sliverado 1500, 8 speed transmission.  Engine light went on just after Christmas and has been at the Dealer for almost a month.   Nothing the dealer can do, other than wait for the parts from Chevrolet.

I opened a case pretty quickly with Chevy because it is under warranty and would need a loaner/rental.    After 3 weeks they give you to an advisor to help you with the process.   Loaner is up to the dealer, and from what i heard they are limited on loaners.  My dealer only had a few which were not available at the time.   But Chevy will reimburse a portion of the rental car.  $44/day but they do not cover taxes/fees.  That $44/day is only covering a car and not a comparable Truck.  You need to submit all the paperwork after the car is fixed, and then takes 4-6 weeks for reimbursement of rental charges.

The Chevy case manager I had escalated to is only able to see when the part ships to the dealer.  They said they cannot tell you if the part is in stock, when its in stock or an estimate of when they expect to have the part available.   The case manager said they will check back every 4 business days.

Being a Supply Chain person myself, it is very frustrating that Chevy cannot provide an estimate on when the parts will become available.   Chevy is a big company with a sophisticated supply chain.  they know where every part is located, production schedules and demands.   They absolutely know when the part is expected to be available.

Hope the above is helpful to anyone who is now in the same boat.   I'll give an update when my Truck gets fixed.

I know this is an older thread .. same ol story, 2023 2500hd with duramax and Allison tranny. 62k miles, CEL, derate andP0700 and P0747 codes. Truck was in shop for 2 weeks until part came in now it’s getting fixed. Dealer refused a loaner, wouldn’t advocate to GM on my behalf .. my question is: for those of you who have experienced this, was this a TRUE fix or did you have add’l issues after the valve body. Looking at 2024 F250 with 7.3 gas and don’t wanna get screwed while out of  town with a broke down truck.

2023 1500 w/LZ0 and just got bitten by the valve body gremlin. Little over 30k miles, less than a year and a half old.  Everything that I have read on here seems pretty much what I'm experiencing, with one exception. I got a call today from the dealer and the lady sounded pretty dumbfounded that the part was in and my truck was already repaired. It's been in for less than a week, and when she first told me that I didn't understand fully why it would be such a surprise. After going through and looking at all this stuff on this and other forums, how? I totally understand why she was so shocked that it was fixed so quickly.

This is something that has been going on with these transmissions for a few years now, and it does make me nervous. That they are still dealing with this issue in the current generation of the trucks.

But did it fix your problem? We have not been hearing from many people who have had their valve bodys replaced. Did it fix the original problem? Drive your truck for a few weeks and report back to the forum if your tranny shifts like it is supposed to.
