Binder49 Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 So, after paying $145.00 for an oil change I have decided to do my own. This is my first time dealing with synthetics. The manual says to use 0W-20. Does anyone have any recommendations on brand and weight, also filter. My truck has 142,000 miles on it. I want to protect the AFM.
rav3 Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 This is what I use for what it's worth. Everyone has a favorite. This is mine. 1
PFTX_5.3 Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 I use the same oil as rav3 but I run wix xp filters on everything we own 1
CamGTP Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 Whatever 0W20 is on sale or that I can get through my work. If you plan to do all your own changes for a while I suggest buying a what they call a "bay box". Bay boxes are 5 or 6 gallon boxes of bulk oil. I buy mine from Napa and it brings the cost per quart down. My local Napa sells Valvoline and the Napa brand itself which is made and packaged by Valvoline lol. It's the same oil at a cheaper cost usually. I have my own funnel and pouring container for using these. 1

CamGTP Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 (edited) I think I payed like $120 for the 6 gallon box of 0W20 Napa stuff. But I get a small discount on it. The walk in price is $146 right now, atleast where I live. This is price without tax. I just prefer these so I don't have to buy the jugs. I'm sure if you bought oil on Amazon it's cheaper for some brands when it comes to the 5 quart jugs, but then you wait on shipping and maybe you run out or whatever. It's just nice to have gallons of oil on hand at any given time. Also non synthetic oil bay boxes are usually $30-40 cheaper. Edited March 6, 2024 by CamGTP 1
Buckwild27 Posted March 7, 2024 Posted March 7, 2024 I get the mobil 1 from Walmart it's about $10 cheaper than the parts store. I also get the mobil 1 filter from there. I have no factual data to back up or support my decision to use Mobil 1, but I've been using it for years in multiple trucks. I can tell you this the 20,000 mile oil will give out 5 to 8,000 miles before the 20,000 mark. I've tested it in my 2013 sierra. About 17,000 truck would start losing oil psi. 2
