I currently have a 2017 Colorado Z71 with 55k miles I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger truck.  I was wondering if there are certain years or builds I should stay away from or that I should seek out.  I'm leaning toward the 6.2 liter but the lifter issue is concerning.  I hear it was really bad in the 9/1/2020-3/21/2021 builds, is this true?  I only plan on towing a camper in the future that will weigh only about 5k - 7klbs.  I'm open to any advice.

I own a 2/21 build, 6.2 - 20,000 miles, over half towing a 5k RV, and no problems.  So, from my sample size of 1, you'll be fine.  :)

OK, so, you are on a Silverado forum, and of course, people are quick to post about their problems, so you are in the right place for folks to chime in about how bad their engines are.  I rarely post to say how happy I am with my truck - who'd read that?  I will say the lifter issues have not reached the point of a recall, or a successful class action suit, so the numbers, while noticeable, have not reached those action points.  Lifter issues have hit all years, unfortunately - but at a rate that's been discussed on this forum to be less or around 2% of the engines built. Of course, if you own one thats failed, you would argue that number is too low.

I knew about Chevy lifter's when I bought my truck and I bought a drivetrain extended warranty.  I'd suggest you do, too.

Good Luck finding your new truck!

I have a '21 with the 6.2 and about 25K miles on the clock.  It was purchased in June, but I don't know when it was built.  No issues with mine except it's hard to stay out of the gas sometimes. 6.2 + 10spd = 😍
