I stopped today and have a tentative appointment next week at my local dealer. I also floated slipping the tech some $$ to put in the drain plug I have and they seemed receptive to it. (it helps that one of my boys used to work there and the service writer has known me for well over 10 yrs)

I am hearing rumblings that this wasnt a process issue at the trans plant but rather a poor metal finish on some internal parts that may have caused some excess material to be shed ?  either way I am not excited about this.

Something seems odd about this situation. So anyone that takes a 2024 or 2025 HD in for service, gets the transmission serviced? No breaking points for vehicles involved? Or is this part of the service, to determine when affected trucks were built. My truck and my brother's were both built in June of last year, when did 2025 production begin? So technically all HDs built over the past year could have this service done?

I can only guess at how they came up with the timeframe for which units were affected. I suspect it has something to do with failure analysis on units that were warrantied and then that leading to an investigation into the part or parts that they believe may have caused it. Once they determine that they would go back and look for changes made to the item like finishing specs or new vendors etc. I have serious questions that likely wont get answered. I cant see any way that excess debris cycling through the trans could not be detrimental. I believe the filter is more than just a screen but how many times has that debris passed through the pump and all the orifices in the valve body ? Will there be other screens in the valve body that now are slightly restricted due to the debris being caught ?

I cant help but think this is a stop gap and that there will be a much bigger. more expensive campaign around this trans. If NHTSA was involved it was likely a big screw up

I think the "phased rollout" is to stop the inevitable stampede of people once they find out all those trucks are affected. Not to mention the run on filters and the ULV (both of which I have on hand at home)

I also would be willing to bet that the techs will figure out a way to get the pan out without pulling the Y-pipe. My guess would be removing the bolts on the trans mount and jacking the trans up enough to clear the pan. Cant wait to see which one it is.

Good question. It doesn't seem to mention any symptoms that indicate this service is needed, so how do they determine which transmissions are affected? VIN list?

Might be related to why so many FB group posts about 10 speeds eating valve bodies and the supposed national backorder on them.

Have the HDs been experiencing the valve body issue as well? Seems like I've only seen it talked about on the 1/2 tons, but that's just anecdotal.
