I saw a very nice looking '25 2500HD Trail Boss at a good price. I have a 1500 today, but can't help but wonder if a move up to the 2500 would be worth it, I don't tow anything at all and only put 5k miles a year on my truck. Is the move up worth it as a daily driver if i wouldn't tow anything?

I would go drive one if you haven’t before. That might make the answer for you obvious one way or the other.

I went from a 2010 Tundra to my 2024 3500 gasser, and my old Tundra rode like a luxury sedan compared to my Sierra. That said, my HD isn't terrible. I also wasn't a fan of all the V6 turbos or cylinder deactivation on all the new half-tons, so the gasser HD was attractive.

Drive before you buy.

I tow a bass boat and a utility trailer, both that I towed with no issues with my last three 1500’s. I stepped up to a 2024 AT4 HD gasser to get away from some of the 1500 features. I put all of the stuff from my previous truck in the bed and under the back seat and plus some. Tire pressures set to 55 psi suits my needs and rides nice. The longer bed is nice too.

I only tow sporadically and so far nothing I couldn’t have towed with a 1500 but I don’t like all the stuff the half tons have in the name of “economy” and I prefer the looks of the HD. I also only found luxury level half tons which actually costed more than my HD did(50k) so the answer was easy for me. I don’t care about the gas mileage hit.

I tow a lot of different trailers up to 14,000lbs so I have to have a heavy duty truck.   That said my brother in law whom has always had half ton trucks and doesn't really need an HD either is seriously considering an HD next time for many of the reasons already stated plus they are a little taller and in many opinions look better.

Exactly why I'm considering it. It looks great and the price is almost identical. Sure, you lose some mpg, but when you spend that kind of money and only drive about 5k miles a year it lessens that blow. Thanks.

I hear ya. The 2500 looks great (better than the 1500 to me) and is about the same price point.

If I wasn't towing a LOT like I do, I would still be in a 1/2T truck. Would probably still be driving my F-150. I was slightly above my rear axle rating so I made the switch to 3/4T. My 1/2T wasn't a daily driver and definitely I wouldn't want the 3/4T as a daily driver.
