My 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 6.2L  Carbon Pro started to make a loud annoying whining noise last week.  My truck just turned 15k miles in 5 years (I'm retired) and started with this problem on start up and driving. I looked into past posts of this problem and only found that it might be the idler pulley and belt.  The truck has been serviced every 3k miles and has not had a single problem since new.  Has any one had this problem and what was done to resolve the issue.

Serpentine belt and or idler pulley is one the easiest and least expensive fixes. I dont know if you are up for the repair but I would inspect the belt for glazing and cracking. At 5 years / 15000 miles I would say just replace the belt and rotate all pulleys by hand listening and feeling for any roughness, squeeking or grinding. I am talking about idler, alternator, water pump. all pulleys. Be aware that there is a special tool to remove and replace the belt. This belt is a stretch to fit belt. If you are not familiar with this procedure you could search for it on youtube or have a pro do it for you.

My 2020 4.3/6l80 made the whine, and persisted after the pulley/belt fix….it was torque converter. Hope not for you!

Got my truck to the dealer today. The problem was the idler pulley coming apart. I was lucky to get the repair done under my extended warranty. Thanks for knowledgeable persons on this site.
