I have about 1500 miles on my new 2024 silverado LT with the 5.3 L engine.  I changed the oil and filter out last week at around 1200 miles just to be safe and make sure that everything is nice and clean.

Yesterday afternoon on the way home I noticed that while parked and the truck was at idle, the oil pressure gauge (slider, not a needle) was reading considerably below the half way point.  I saw no oil drips or anything else like that , so I put it in drive and continued on my way home.  The oil gauge increased the pressure reading to a bit over 1/2 way, which is what I have been seeing/noticing since day 1.  When I got home, I pulled it into the shop and sure enough when in park and at idle, it dropped super low again.  I checked my dipstick and it was fine.  I crawled underneath and saw no signs of a leak from the filter or the drainplug.

I read that some of these engines have a variable speed oil pump.  My previous 2014 5.3L never had a fluctuating oil pressure like this.

Is this something I need to investigate further? Still warrantied, should I make a service appointment? I hate to do that since the nearest dealership is nearly 2 hours away.

Normal and I guarantee your 2014 was the same exact way as its the same style oil pump.

Its a dual stage displacement oil pump.  Hot idle expect 20-28psi, anything under 3500rpm and just normal driving they make about 40psi, anything over 3500rpm it hits the second stage and will make 55-75psi.

I had a 2018, same engine as your 2014 and they have the same exact style pump as a 2019-2024.  Gauge operated the same way but they were the older needle style gauges and not the digital sliding bar.

Great, thank you.  I probably just never noticed in in my previous ride, or, I just forgot. I was looking for any 'problems' associated with the oiling system/pump failures and they are pretty few and far between.

I don`t believe the L84`s have the dual stage pump like the L83`s. I don`t believe they have the piston sprayers either. All the rest of the LT engines have the dual stage and sprayers.

That being said, you`re good to go. I have 5w30 in my new L84. Mine goes down to your observed points too, or a tad higher. I observed carefully when I still had 0w20 and now with 5w30. when hot. Welcome to 0w20 oil and heat.
