Like the title says. New to me 2022 Silerado trail boss with less then 21000kms. When leaving the house first thing in the moring. I back out on to the street, Shift to drive and the first shift of the transmission from first to second has a long stall before shifting to second. RPMS rise and then it goes into gear. Its like a couple of seconds before it engages. Theres no clunk or anything just a slow response. It doesn't happen any other time just the first shift in the morning. Its surpring to me every morning, I actually move forward in my seat during the stall. Owners manual says "When temperatures are very cold, the transmission's gear shifting could be delayed providing more stable shifts until the engine warms up. Shifts could be more noticeable with a cold transmission. This difference in shifting is normal."

Dosen't seem normal to me at all.

Its normal.  Especially if you have the 2.7 Turbo and 8 speed.  8 speed has had that 1-2 harsh shift since it came out in 2015.

What engine/transmission do you have???

When I had my 2019 8 speed it did the same thing when cold I found out when it's cold and backing up out of the driveway and when you put it in drive I would sit there for about 5 seconds in drive and then drive away it wouldn't do it near as much

It is the 2.7 liter with the 8 speed. It just feels so weird. Its like its in neutral between gears. Thanks for the explaination. Over all very happy with this truck. Coming from a 2018 Nissan Pro4X. Better gas milage and a lot more leg room. At 6.1 I have to actually put the seat ahead not maxed out to the rear light the frontier.

Shift Concerns on 8-Speed Transmissions

November 29, 2023

The 8-speed automatic transmissions (RPO M5N, MNU, M5U, M5X, MHA, M5T, MQE, MQD) in some 2015-2018 Corvette; 2015-2020 Escalade, Yukon; 2015-2023 Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500; 2016-2018 CTS; 2016-2019 ATS, CTS; 2016-2023 Camaro; 2017-2023 Colorado, Canyon; 2017-2024 Express, Savana; and 2020-2024 CT4 models (Fig. 5) may exhibit hard or harsh shifts.

There are several steps that should be taken to improve the shift quality, depending on the mileage on the vehicle.

First 1-2 Shift

If there is a hard 1-2 shift felt on the first 1-2 shift of the day under light throttle, it is to be considered normal as there is a clutch purge being performed at this time. Subsequent 1-2 shift should have an acceptable shift feel. This does not impact the designed performance of the transmission and no repair attempts should be performed. Refer to Bulletin #16-NA-361 for more details.
