I just purchased a brand new Silverado 3500 that I ordered. I've already had some issues with this thing as far as a leak and a couple other things that I won't get into here The main reason I'm posting here is to ask about corrosion and rust. This thing has rust all over the underneath of this truck not just a little service for us but I'm talking rough rust. It's on the tie rods it's on the rear u joint it's on the differential up top several other components on the frame etc etc when you look under this truck it does not look like a new truck in any way shape or form. Now when I compare that to my 17-year-old avalanche, it shows nothing no rust no corrosion anywhere. I feel like something is very wrong here but I don't know how to take action. I posted this topic on the Duramax forum as well where I was able to post pictures. I'm considering leap seeking legal counsel at this point but I'm looking for professional opinions to see if I'm overreacting. Ideas?

Honestly it's kinda normal now, they don't paint a lot of those parts anymore and just leave them bare steel. They also don't spray them with undercoating.

GM isn't going to do anything and taking legal action will only cost you money for no gain. If you want it to look perfect underneath you'll need to scuff those parts down and apply your own paint and undercoating.

Normal.  Here's GM's explanation for all of that and what is considered acceptable - PI0281I_en_US.xml

A thread on it here as well -

I can crawl under a Ford or a Ram and run into the same issues.

No "action" to take here.

Are you the same guy from Wisconsin posting this issue on X also?

If you're from the Milwaukee area, they use some of the most aggressive "salt" in the winter I've ever experienced.

My '22 Silverado I bought used from a WI dealer had a crystalline buildup on the cab underside - I've never seen that before.  Since I wash my trucks weekly, I haven't experienced any excessive undercarriage rust...

What many don't realize is they use a liquid salt brine on roads and have been for over 25 yrs +.
