Looking to upgrade from a 2020 Silverado with the 6.2L with no issues but hear that I should stay away from the new 6.2L due to reliability issues... my heart wants another 6.2L but my gut tells me I should steer clear of the new 6.2L and get the 3.0L Diesel. Would love to hear what you would choose and why.

So, I traded my 2023 6.2l before the recall came out for an identical truck except for the engine. The new one has a 3.0l. The 6.2l was trouble free but there was enough issues popping up we decided to swap it out a year early. Fast forward. My 3.0l engine siezed 3 weeks ago and it sits in the dealer service lot waiting for a replacement engine. Just my luck. But, even if it went into a lemon law buyback, I'd get another 3.0l. I don't plan on dumping this one once fixed.

6.2 no doubt. Tons of power. The 2025-26 models got good crankshafts. I have used a Range Technologies DFM disabler since new. I have had a 2021 5.3 without DFM, a 2023 5.3 with DFM disabled and now the 25 6.2 with DFM disabled. Holy ****** this thing is fast! I would follow your heart.

Let us know when you decide.

Thank you for your input. Do you happen to know if the DFM disabler affects the warranty in any way?

I believe Range Technologies states that it does not affect your warranty, but to be honest I got a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty when I purchased my truck from my dealer. I recently went in to have my active exhaust recalibrated to ZR2 spec. (this makes the exhaust 20% louder on startup and 10 or 15% louder overall in Sport Mode). I did disconnect the disabler to ensure it did not interfere with that download/recalibration. Now I was a Master Technician and spend way too much time on this forum and other related reading so I am probably being overly cautious. I would not worry about voiding your warranty. I usually introduce myself to the Service Manager and ask those questions whenever i purchase a new vehicle. They normally are very agreeable and courteous to me when buying a new truck.

Times have changed. I wouldn’t want the fight. Especially with lifetime warranty. I’ve read here that every time you plug in there’s a counter. If it doesn’t match with the dealer work sheet. Your screwed. If range wants to backup their claim in writing back up the fight if there’s a problem. Go for it. I used to roll the dice. I wouldn’t today.

I think you are behind the times. That's a lot of advice and lack of knowledge from a guy who drives a 2002 Avalanche.

You don’t have a clue. My family business buys all the brands of trucks.  I drive what I want. My grandson drives my avalanche now. I drive several different vehicles because that’s what I like. I know the industry because I am a partner in a large equipment sales and service company. I stay informed even retired for fun. Put that tune in if you like. If she blows. You were warned.

I heard from a reliable source (service tech) about someone who tuned their vehicle (desel truck I think) and had some problems so they put the factory tune back and took it to the dealer.  Got a call their warranty was blocked because it was tampered with. Seems they discovered that with 40,000 miles on the vehicle the start button had been pressed less than 10 times in 40,000 miles??  So they got a tracer hidden in the ecm that counts starts.

Just because you think you deleted something does not mean everything reset as if nothing was changed.

tuning is whole lot different than a range device, everyone i know with a gm product runs a range device and never had a problem with warranty work. even if there is an ecm counter you just say you had diagnostic scanner hooked to the vehicle

I read about it on here. I know at least with GM everything is tracked. They would know the difference between devices. And possibly they wouldn’t care if the cylinder deactivation was shut off. I simply stated I wouldn’t want to take the chance. I’ve read in some cases it trips a light. They can probably tell during the driving cycle when it should have come on. They would know. Then it would be at their discretion.

I made a good relationship with my GM service manager and I connected a scanner and reset system constantly for my testing. It DID NOT void my warranty. Find a good service manager who cares and stop bending over with out being lubed for your truck. Grow a pair and build a relationship where YOU don’t get screwed DRY!!!

The information I got about the counters in the system are from here. I’m sure they can determine information versus manipulation. They also say that the dealership has to answer to people representing the manufacturer. They’re not going to rubber stamp a major repair without due diligence. I’ve had experience with a transmission warranty and an engine. A representative had to bless the warranty. It took a few days. I had a multiple vehicle relationship with the dealer. I can imagine if you asked the service writer or mechanic. The blanket statement would be don’t mess with anything. They don’t even like you to change your own oil. I’ve use aftermarket many times. I had total confidence in the vehicle and the product. It used to be you could drop a gear and turn off cylinder deactivation. I’d go that route if it’s still available. I just pass information to be helpful. Do what you desire.

My comments were not aimed at you. I know you know how to advocate for yourself as a former business man. So many here seem to back off without engaging a bit.

I inadvertently tagged you. Habit I guess. I do admire your service not just in the service. Although sometimes misguided in some areas. 🤣 As I’ve mentioned before I worked with my family. Back in the good old days my service writer would remind me to pull the tune before bringing it in. Today it’s don’t even think about it. But today they give you sports mode and active exhaust. When I was buying back in the day I had to add that stuff. It almost makes me wish I was still working so I could write off a new truck every two years. When I drive my brothers super snake pickup or my nephews raptor r it brings back fond memories. When I drove highly modified trucks across country to show our equipment or train new buyers of the equipment. My father never complained about what we did with our trucks because we spent so much time in them. I may lease one before my time runs out for old times sake. I’ve just have gotten to cheap in my old age. To spend that kind of money just because I may want one. I haven’t bought a new vehicle since 2017. My family can’t believe it. And I’m driving Hondas mostly. I heard talk of an intervention.😬 Last year at our Christmas party my sister saw me get into the mini van. She almost fainted. Well I’m rambling. I forgot what this thread was.😵‍💫
