My 2020 Sierra Elevation 5.3 is making a ticking sound at idle, intermittently; took it to the dealer, they told me it sounds like my lifters, said they would need to be replaced......quoted $8-10k (Canadian) to replace them all. We're at 120,000 km

Now, I've got quite a bit into wheels and tires/lifts/ect; hadn't planned on replacing it any time soon, but now I'm wondering if I should trade it in on something brand new and under warranty before it becomes an issue, or bite the bullet and get it fixed?

Figures, this is the first vehicle I have kept more than 3 or 4 years, usually I flip them well before I'm out of warranty......kind of regretting not doing so here! Pisses me off to be wasting so much $, and makes me paranoid about what else I've got to fix after this

Bad deal. OK here is my opinion. You can kiss your wheels, tires and whatever else goodbye. They have no trade value (or may hurt the trade a little). I would start looking around for new. Now i am in the U.S. so i will only speak to US dollars but trying to realistic, $10,000 to repair, $10,000 to $14,000 for trade (maybe more). that's $20,000 to $24,000 down. (I don't know if you still owe on the 2020). Chevrolet trucks are being offered for about $10,000 under MSRP depending on stock and engine size. I got my Trail Boss 6.2 loaded Midnight package for $10,000 off MSRP in November last year. New paint, new smell, new warranty. You know what i mean. That is in the US.

I would not fix your truck, I would stick an engine in it if you decide to keep it. That's my 2 cents.

since you have a lift and tires, fuel mileage isn't a consern. i would do an oil change and put 5w-30 in it and see if it changes. if you still get the ticking, then it is your budget and do what you think is best.

The young me would trade. The old me would drive it. Depending on the condition of the truck I would drive it and if it fails I would put a new engine in. They would probably devalue the truck if you trade with it ticking.
