Uh...the heat from the sun is still hitting the cab, the windshield, the sensor, etc.

it's not going to warm the air the same way it warms the sensor directly (especially since the sensor is a darker color), though. When the sun is directly overhead, it's going to shine directly on the sensor but not directly on anyone in the cabin, limited areas of the dash, and that's it. Anything else will warmth radiating into the air back off of the dash area.

 

If you park your truck on asphalt in the mid-day sun, the asphalt UNDER the truck is not getting anywhere near as much warming compared to the asphalt that isn't under the truck...
