I have a 2014 Sierra SLT 5.3. I just changed the alternator and now it is giving me a service battery charging system. It wasn’t on before I changed the alternator. The battery is less than a year old as well.

why did you change the alternator?

are you sure you hooked it up correctly?  maybe recheck all the connections that they are clean, tight and fully inserted.

it's also possibly the new alternator is bad out of the box.

I replaced my alternator with a 250 Amp Mechman and, recently, replaced my battery with an AGM.
When you replace your alternator, be sure you run the cables properly.
Also, be sure the "ring" remains on the negative battery cable.
Quick search:
"The "ring" or donut-shaped component on the negative battery terminal of a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado is the battery current sensor, which is part of the vehicle's Electrical Power Management (EPM) or Regulated Voltage Control (RVC) system."
