Nuts in the Fan

A friend at work took his '03 Envoy to the dealer at about 35.9K for his last warranty claims, including a heater fan that rattled a lot at high speed. The dealer warned him that if they found nuts in the fan from squirrels dropping them, it wouldn't be covered under warranty. Thursday afternoon the dealer called and said his truck was ready and that it would be $70 to get the nuts out of the fan. The dealer also wondered about how such large nuts got through the screen. We wondered about what was happening since he always parks his truck in the garage at home and at work, he parks under a tree that doesn't have any nuts.

Well, his mystery was solved when the dealer showed him a baggy with the nuts they fished out of the blower: brazil nuts and peanuts, probably spilled down the defroster openings. We had a good laugh the next day, conjecturing that the real reason was that someone drove his truck to South America and monkeys did it.

The exterior vents for air on our old Ranger were fairly wide and it was always parked outside, so pine needles would always fall into them. Whenever you got into the truck and turned on the fan you would get blasted with leaves and pine needles...I don't remember nuts ever getting into the vents, but I bet it is still a common problem for many people.

I'm sure glad this post didn't turn out the way I thought it would when I read the topic header.:D:eek:

Honestly, that wasn't my intention.
