2025 3.0L toast

Truck went into reduced acceleration yesterday. Got it to the dealer this morning, engine is toast. Faulty thrust bearing

2025 Ultimate 3.0L

6900km’s (4287 miles)

new crate engine coming but down for 4-6 weeks

Fault code P06DD

Damm, I know that is what warranty's are for but depending on what individual does the work I cannot help but wonder if it would ever be the same. best of luck and hope it turns out well.

Sorry to read this. Really terrible news but luckily you have warranty. Hopefully the new engine won’t have the same issue.

Thought all the 3L duramax engines were assembled in Flint. Could be wrong though

We had a post the other day regarding Toyota admitting they have clear issues regarding their newer engines in the Tundra. Here we have a clear example of the Mary Bara led GM were they have a clear known issue known with the trust plate and instead of issuing a recall to keep owners satisfied, the bean counters must of decided it is better to let as many fall out of warranty coverage as possible and only be forced to fix the ones who fall within the 3/36.

Sad to continue to see them drop the ball on everything they do it seems, seriously how many here have any faith in the next gen v-8's, because i sure don't!

Did they show you the thrust bearing piece? The one we had looked like this:

The 3.0's are warrantied to 5 years/100k by default. But yes, if GM is aware of the production run for the affected engines, those engines should be recalled and replaced.

Any indication that it was about to fail?

I've just rolled over 2,000 miles on mine and no issues so far, but I'm nowhere near out of the woods if the typical failure is sometime <10k.

haven't seen it yet but headed to the dealership shortly to pickup my loaner

No indication at all. Just doing a normal Sunday drive pulling my little snowmobile trailer ( 1900lbs) and the warning popped up on the dash and HUD, dropped down to 60km/h. Pulled over and shut the truck off, left it for a minute started again and continued on for another 5 minutes before it went reduced again. Continuous cycle to get back home. Long day!

Do you happen to know what your build date is? Demonworks on YT was tracking them on the DuramaxNews website. My 2025 is an April build, and I am at around 4500 miles. Getting ready for a 1500 mile road trip, and this is the last thing I want to be worried about.

Not OP but the one we replaced an engine at work was a March 2025 truck, 2025 model year. Let go at 5,408mi.

The TSB was last updated at the end of January but still only has a model year range with no specific build range. Just 2025 and 2026 model years as a whole so far.

Thanks for the info! I'm sure the failure rate vs number of trucks built with the 3.0L is still fairly low, but it doesn't instill confidence knowing it could let go at any time.
