First Silverado purchase, am I overthinking this 2023?

I've been a Ford guy my whole life but a 2023 Silverado caught my eye and I can't stop looking at it. Threw the VIN in here for anyone curious vinnumber.net/makes/chevrolet/silverado/?vin=1GCUDJEL9PZ159474. Honest question, how's the 10-speed holding up in real world use? I tow a 24ft boat maybe ten times a year, is the cooling package on these adequate? And what's the deal with the lifter issues I keep reading about on the 5.3?

The 10 speed is generally the same as whats found in a Ford - they were developed together.

Non issue.

 

If there was an internet concern I'd be looking at - it would be the main bearing failures. 

 

If applicable to this truck, does using a heavier oil, to alleviate potentially bad machining reassure you enough?

 

All noted problems are magnified WAAAAY out of proportion on the internet.

I believe these DFM engines are less problematic than the AFM types, even though they have deac lifters in all locations. I believe bad TIMING of the deac event causes most collapsed lifters. The shorter oil path and faster computing has made the DFM types a little, at least, better.

 

Oh, and put real oil in em.

Well...its a 6.2 for starters.

 

For somewhere over 64,000mi that it has, the good news is the engine only has like 2,000+mi on it.  Original engine passed the Picoscope test recall for it at 57,848mi and then it failed at 62,853mi.  So it has a brand new engine.

I wonder how much the seller is disclosing about the truck's history. It's not like they give you that printout, you have to know a database exists and that if you ask someone nicely, they'll get the car's dealer-service/warranty history for you.

 

I wonder what, if anything, would show on a carfax.

The weird part too is googling that VIN doesn't come up with any listings for sale.  99.9% of the time if you have a VIN for a car for sale it will hit on google to a dealership selling it.  Heck even if it was a salvage car at auction it would hit most of the time. 

 

Exceptions I can think of are private sale like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc.  

 

But a legitimate dealer it would hit on the web for sale somewhere.

I'm a die-hard GM guy, and I even have a 6.2, earlier than the 'bad' ones. 

 

I wouldn't buy a 6.2 from 2021 through end of production.

Could be his salesmen knew he was looking for a used truck? They got that in and called him to say it was available. I doubt the dealer would take the time to list it in their for sale database if it was a quick sale truck.
