NAV and 6 disk changer in a Silverado

Ok. I installed the Head Unit. Where do you mount the antenna. I saw one scematic of where it supposedly goes. I cant get the dash apart. Does it really matters where it goes and where did everyone else do it. Right now I have it just dangling in the back of the radio till I get the theftlock turned off next week. Let me know so I can make sure it works.

A lot of folks just kind of wedge it up in amongst the dash braskets and braces near the underside of the dash pad.

Come on........take that dash cover off and do it "factory" style. LOL!!!!

Here is some info to get started.....let's get some more NavRadio p/n's together!

Hey, I ran into a problem on the CDX install..... everything is wired and working. However, it does not slide into the console deep enough. Did you guys have to trim anything to get it to mount deeper? I do have the CDX with the metal tabs, so that isnt it. Please advise.

To the guy wondering about the gps antenna mounting: I found the factory mount location but there was alreay a bolt there, so i just wedged it behind the radio up towards the wind shield. I didnt really know how far to push it up ther so its pretty far. I can see it through the vents reflecting on my windshield sometimes.

you have to use a dremmel or saw, to cut out that little section that drops down in that pocket. Once its outta the way, your good to go.

I finished the amp wiring mod leaving the premium amp installed and the lux amp on the back floor. I hooked it up to the UC6 and no sound. I rechecked the wires to make sure they were in the proper places, still nothing. I hooked up the '531 to see what would happen, no sound and no theftlock, but I could use the screen settings, configure button and so on. I should have had a theftlock though. I am leaning towards a bad amp but I don't know. The amp# is15188044. Any advice?

dont know whether the 6 disk will operate correctly with the LUX amp, the pins may be different at the HU harness for the 6 disk. I know you can get the 6 disk with the Y91, but it is wired up to be compatible from the factory. The changes that are made to the wiring harness to use the NAV and LUX amp are assuming your starting out with a "non-Y91" setup. I would highly advise against hooking up a LUX amp to ANYTHING other than the NAV radio after you have made the wiring changes if your making the changes outlined here in this thread. I only say this because these AMPs are very finicky, if you hook them up incorrectly, or "TRY SOMETHING" with them other then what they were meant for, you may come up with a dead AMP. Not a "BAD" AMP, but a dead one in need of new programming.

With that said, was the AMP you have, pulled from a working vehicle? Or was it new? You are obviously installing it into an (originally) non-Y91 setup right? It sounds to me like a dead AMP, but i would double and triple check your wires.

Sounds like I may have killed the amp (?) because I first hooked it up to the 6-disc just to see if the radio would play. I have an '03 Silverado. It's an e-bay amp and the guy wrote to me that it was pulled from a working Escalade. Yes, an original non Y-91 truck. I checked the wires three times and once with someone else to make sure. I did not know a "dead" amp could be brought back to life. Any amps for sale yet?

The "531" is a lux unit and you just said the amp came from a non-Y91 truck (that is a non-lux amp then)

That is why you have no sound

As for the theftlock issue, did you just turn the key to accessory or to run, the theftlock will not lock up on some vehicles untill the key is in the run position.

The amp came from an Escalade. So now I have a '531 nav and a lux amp. I'm putting things back together right now and I will start the truck when I'm done. I unhooked the data bus line at the amp, turned on the ACC and zip, nada, as I expected. The DCI also said "driver unknown". So I guess the data wire works because the nav funtions, just no sound. Any other ideas? Thanks for the replies!

Update... Started the truck and the Bose/Chevy bowtie appears, like it's supposed to. Still no theftlock. Still no sound. Maybe this nav was never married to the vehicle but I doubt it if it came out of an Escalade. Anyway, still no workie...

Sounds like the amp didn't like being connected to the UC6 or it just needs reprogrammed and calibrated for your truck, Have the dealership do this:

Couple of things. I connected both drain wires to B7, since I have directions that say not used or one or the other, so I used both. I didn't think this would be a problem. The other thing I did was solder two data wires to A1, one for the amp and one for the future in-dash cd player, like the one in earlier posts. The one for cd player is not touching anything.

Your image did not post for me. Are you refering to the Tech-II procedure for programing amps somewhere in this thread?

Assuming I have a bad connection in one of the harness plug wires I pulled and replaced, have any idea which one would cause these problems?

Thanks, BB

Well guess what... So I go back outside to just check once more. I remember reading a post that said they played with the volume or something. I had the volume at 2.5 before I removed the UC6 but as I stated previously, no sound . So this time I turn the volume all the way down at the steering wheel, I'm guessing all the way down, hit the volume button on the screen, then the button on the steering wheel and I have tunes! Spacious, driver, the works. I then turn off the ACC and go inside, 10 minuets later back out to the truck, turn on the radio, nothing again. So now I'm really confused. At least I had it working long enough to tell me my wiring was O.K. Still no theft lock either.

Any suggestions?

sounds like a definate AMP issue, or one of your wires is loose.

I'll check the wires again later today. Thanks for your help, Linda.

I got my non-lux touch screen head unit installed and it works great. I have not yet installed the VSS wire though. Right now it works pretty good though. Does anyone know the part number for the manual on how to use this thing though. I cant figure out all the features on it. Let me know if anyone can help.
