Can you "DIM" the display with your dimmer?  This is done through the data wire as well.

Yes, it dims just like the rest of the dash. It does seem like the Hu is communicating. I don't know what else to do other than send the Hu in to Delphi or some one to have it checked, unless someone has another suggestion.

KDC Racer, another thing to try if you didn't think of it.  If you have a code reader.  Set up a DTC by pulling a key fuse somewhere, and see if your port is communicating.  Can you remove the code, etc.?  If you don't have a reader, autozone will lend you one.

I'll try it. I do have a code reader on my PDA. I assume it needs to be a BCM related fuse to see if that port is working, right?

Has anyone else had an unlock problem besides me?

If it is an 05 TNR, some of those can not be unlocked by a tech II without being in the donor vehicle and those can not be placed in another vehicle.

Does anyone know the part number for the 2 harnesses at the AMP? or more specifically, part numbers for the connectors themselves and pins?

Thanks

I have the harness for the 6 disc changer and made the solder connections to the 24 pin connector. The spaces for connecting the remaining 3 wires to the 12 pin connector are already being used. What do I do? Thanks.

Splice the wires in using soldering or Scotchloc connectors. So, in other words, tap the 3 CDX audio wires into the appropriate wires that are already in the 12 pin connector. These wires that are already in place are for the XM and/or RSE. Because the GM head units only actually have one physical aux input, the different aux devices are simply all wired into the same input (in parallel) and the Class II data bus determines which device is on and off, effectivly "switching" between the 3 possible factory aux input devices (XM, CDX, RSE).

BBSilverado--- What do you mean by "some '05 TNR's can not be unlocked with a Tech II"?? I have a '0099 lux TNR / upgraded Y91 amp that I put in my 2005 Duramax crew cab and it all works fine, but then again, I bought the nav NEW (no tech II needed). I am now paranoid that one day the Theftlock will activate randomly (ive heard of this happening) and I wont be able to unlock it!! (because a nav unit is not a OE option for my vehicle) Would I be completely out of luck with a useless TNR??

Thanks Ben. I'm also nervous because I thought I bought a used '05 TNR and did not have to have it theftlocked. Or the seller screwed up and sold me a new one.

Hi Guys, Great bunch of info on this topic, But I still have a few ??s.

Could there possibly be a warranty issue concerning GM not covering the NAV unit as most of our trucks are not coming factory equipped this way? or worse yet, GM not covering any possible electrical malfunction and placing blame on our install, even though factory equip is being used?

I had a service manager tell me when I switched over to the power tow mirrors, that I could possibly fry my BCM and GM would not cover because I was installing mirrors that originally did not come with the truck from factory. Just a thought.

I'm sure thousands have done mirror swaps as I have with no problems, but this head unit is big coin and wouldnt want to have something go wrong and probably not be covered.

O.K. just thought of another few??s.

If I decide to do this mod and go non lux version as I have dumb amp and 6 cd head unit with bose. Are these part #s correct?

10377287- TNR

15135178- GPS antenna

15312903- CD changer harness

15122617- In dash CD changer

12089649- GM Terminal ends

VSS wire taps into A4 position at gauge cluster and goes to E position at small 12 pin connector on head unit? CORRECT?? also if there is already a wire in E position due to onstar we just splice into that wire correct?

Now for the complicated question. I already have an aftermarket DVD player in my dash pocket playing monitors in my head rests, can I watch video on the nav unit as well? what adapters may be needed? part#s?? I also wish to add a backup camera and want that image on the NAV unit as well. Can both options be done??

I am also now realizing that I would require the 6 cd magazine type changer as I do not wish to move my DVD unit. I would also require a much longer harness. Anyone have those GM part#s? Thanks.

If by chance I get lucky and can add everything I wish to do, Can someone also tell me how to hook it ALL up. I feel I can do the NAV unit, just not sure on how to hook up the possible extras.

I WISH TO THANK EVERYBODY WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS THREAD, FOR I WOULD HAVE NO IDEA ON WHERE TO BEGIN IF NOT FOR YOUR INFO !!!!!!!!

Also sorry for the long post.

New units do not have a VIN stored in them, so when it is installed and powered up it will learn the VIN of that vehicle. Used units will have a donor vehicle's VIN stored in them and will lock up if the unit is placed in a different vehicle. In most cases the TNR can be commanded to learn a new VIN but that can only be done once with the Tech II programming after that the unit has to be sent To a Delphi service center (I don't know what they do with them at that point but it is more than what can be done by GM service programming)

I have never heard of a newer headunit (03-05) weather a nav unit or regular radio randomly locking up, the older (pre 03) units did do that but they where theftlocked by a user assigned code and not by encoded VIN's. The older HU's would lock up anytime the power was temporary lost and the theftlock option was turned on.

Your part numbers are correct.

If the wire in the "E" postion is purple with white tracer then you do not have to add that wire from the gauge cluster.

The nav unit will not display video as it is now, but a video input interace is available to enable it to do that. the interface will only add video to the screen and not audio. The interface requires you to take the nav unit's cover off and remove a ribbon cable and install a new cable that connects to the video input adapter and a dash mounted switch (the switch allows you to select input video or the normal display from the nav unit)

The video interface: http://www.carmobileaudio.com/product/PACVCI

You would then need another input adapter for the audio on your DVD player (you won't need anything if your just using it for a backup cam)

If you are going to use both (backup cam and DVD) then you will also need a video selector switch installed so you can select between the camara and the DVD player.

Everything you want to do is possible but it won't be cheap, the video input adapter alone is over $350.

Group,

Thanks for all your help. I was able to install the 05 Nav unit with no problems. I am waiting for the GPS antenna and CD. I just wanted to let you know that the dealer shows that the v3 disc has been update with part number # 15105609. I will let you know if it is an update when I receive it. Also can I take an Alpine CD changer and splice it into the system?

Thanks again…

There is no concern that it will void your vehicle warranty, but GM will not cover the nav unit itself. You did not buy the nav unit from GM so they will not warranty it. If you did buy it new from a dealer or retailer you should have a warranty on the unit through them. I got a 1 year warranty on the one I bought through Model Electronics.
