NAV and 6 disk changer in a Silverado

O.K. just thought of another few??s.

If I decide to do this mod and go non lux version as I have dumb amp and 6 cd head unit with bose. Are these part #s correct?

10377287- TNR

15135178- GPS antenna

15312903- CD changer harness

15122617- In dash CD changer

12089649- GM Terminal ends

VSS wire taps into A4 position at gauge cluster and goes to E position at small 12 pin connector on head unit? CORRECT?? also if there is already a wire in E position due to onstar we just splice into that wire correct?

Now for the complicated question. I already have an aftermarket DVD player in my dash pocket playing monitors in my head rests, can I watch video on the nav unit as well? what adapters may be needed? part#s?? I also wish to add a backup camera and want that image on the NAV unit as well. Can both options be done??

I am also now realizing that I would require the 6 cd magazine type changer as I do not wish to move my DVD unit. I would also require a much longer harness. Anyone have those GM part#s?  Thanks.

If by chance I get lucky and can add everything I wish to do, Can someone also tell me how to hook it ALL up. I feel I can do the NAV unit, just not sure on how to hook up the possible extras.

I WISH TO THANK EVERYBODY WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS THREAD, FOR I WOULD HAVE NO IDEA ON WHERE TO BEGIN IF NOT FOR YOUR INFO !!!!!!!!

Also sorry for the long post.

I think the part numbers for the long slave harness and remote CD are in this thread. Dealer could tell you. JP Customs sells these new. Whatever disc changer you use, it has to be classII data bus compatable. The TNR and GPS numbers are good but you may not need the bag of terminal ends since the '287 TNR is plug and play with the non lux amp. You can use left over pins from CD harness for the VSS. They are only a few bucks though.

A4 to E is correct and E should be open.

You will not be able to watch DVD's on the HU. You can have back-up displayed on the Nav. PAC offers an interface for this and JP Customs is one place to buy one.

Nav is plug and play. Cd harness is solder or scotchlocks and the schematic is on this thread early on. Most of the back-up interface is plug and play. To properly install the GPS will be a pain to reach without dash pad removal.

Some have commented on how easy this all is. But it's not that easy unless you have done these kinds of things before. However, if you take your time and not worry about how fast someone else claims to have done it, you can do this. JP Customs sells a complete "kit" but I do not know how much easier it would be. The guys watching over this thread are pretty da-m good and always ready to help.

I finished soldering the CD wire harness this morning and then lifted the dash enough to install the GPS. It's not fun but there is enough room to place the GPS where it's supposed to go and screw it down. The Nav has my position spot on though no road test yet; erands to do later. The CD changer works fine so far. Next thing to do is cut the pocket out of the console insert. Now I see where the material is to be removed from behind the pocket. Too bad the mounting pad is not over just a tad and deeper, then it would fit properly. > How much of this "mounting tab" should I remove? Or does it matter as long as the unit slides all the way in. > Are two screws and the mounting pins all that keeps this unit in place?

Gotta say these are great mods!

Synster I just used a long recip saw blade and cleared out the entire back side, just watch out for the wiring harness back there.

Thanks. That's close to what I did. I need to trim a little more around the bezel and I'm good to go. I'm surprised at how tight the changer fits.

Hopefully my last few questions.

If I have onstar will that purple wire with whit tracer (that BB Silverado mentioned ) be in the E position or is it a 50/50 shot?

If one adds the 6 disc changer, can you listen to music and still run the NAV disc? if so do you still hear the voice prompts?

Also thanks for the info on my ??s about backup cam and DVD playing through the Nav unit

That purple with white tracer wire will probably not be there unless you have a Denali or Escalade.

You can play CD's in the changer while the Nav DVD is playing in the headunit and you can still hear the voice prompts (providing you set the voice promps to a volume level that is high enough)

Anyone tried wiring up thier "back-up" camera into a trany reverse switch, or neutral safety switch? So instead of using the manual toggle switch to switch to the backup display, it just switches when you put the trany in reverse. Seems if you could trace out the backup lights wire....a simple relay would be all you would need to make it work.

Take a look at the install manual for the PAC interface. It's just as you describe.

Group,

I took off the top console and found where a microphone could go. The dealer gave me a part number #15766922 but he did not know what it is used for. The console has the plug and everything. It is not the onstar mic because that is on the other side. Could this be the mic for the nav system? If so any wiring on the nav side. I was reading that Linda installed a mic on her system. I used the 05 TNR for my 04 Envoy XUV.

Thanks for the help….

nope, the Delco (gm truck/SUV navs) nav units do not have voice activation/recognition. Only the Denso units (Corvette C6 and Caddy cars) have voice recognition. That mic is probably for the Denso units. Either that or its the noise compensation mic (for the Lux amps) that mounts on the side of the center console.

By the way, where did you all mount your mics? I know where the factory placed them. I thought maybe I could use a salt shaker lid for a guide and drill some holes. But so far I'm overwhelmed with fear.
