d**n Alpine

Last fall I bought an Alpine HU as an upgrade to the alpine I had and put the old one in the wifes suv. At the time I was going to purchase the xm receiver that Alpine makes. The salesman tells me to wait cause they were supposed to be going on sale with a free antenna. I watched the adds and popped into the store to check every so often but the sale never came. So, earlier this month my wife decides she is just going to buy the stuff for my birthday. Well, now alpine and xm are not getting along (so the salesman says) and they are no longer making the receiver and all I can do is wait for a generic unit to become available.

well thats just not cool. period.

So I guess I might be jumping ship. Have always had alpine and have never ever had one single issue with them till now.

What brands are you guys using? I am not a fan of Kenwood or Pioneer. Both have been in ex's cars and they had nothing but problems

I see that they now offer a headunit with the XM receiver built in, so it would appear there is no problems between Alpine and XM.

I think the salesman was up to their typical song and dance routine....i.e. clueless.

I have had great luck with Kenwood GF7PE...But I have only used their "dead-head" units, and I havn't bought one in about 6 years.

Pioneer never gave me anything but problems from the beginning with every single product I ever bought that said Pioneer on it. No exceptions.

Every place I have gone to lately has been saying that Panasonic is the way to go right now. But I have never owned one of those, so do more research before jumping into that one.

I've never been a fan of the way Sony's look, but they do make a decent product most of the time. (You get what you pay for....They make crap too.)

I waiting for a decent head unit to come out with XM integrated before I take the leap to XM.....Oh, and it better play MP3's as well.

ya I hear that. Alpine does make the intergrated xm hu but no separate receivers? wtf?

was lookin at the Panasonic CQVAD7300 but like you said wingnut, who knows.

just sucks to buy a product and not be able to use its features

I feel like a beta owner

When I say integrated.....I mean ALL of it in there. I want everything but the antenna built into the unit. Nothing seperate.

Till that happens....I'll stick with my stock  system.

Actually, XM already makes the tuners that will work with the Alpine head units. The problem is the interface cable. Blitzsafe has the rights to make the interface cable for Alpine, but it won't be out until June. The good news is that the XM receiver is much smaller than the Alpine unit. So, just wait a few more months to get XM. That's what I am doing.

Here's my deal...Got an Alpine CDX-7894 with the XM tuner box in my 2002 HD.Also got the the SPR-176 component door speakers. Within 7 months, Alpinee head unit crapped out. Had it sent out for repair under warranty. 1 MONTH later I got it back and re-installed it. 6 DAYS later crapped the bed again. Sent out again for 2 weeks. Got it back and all seems to be fine. Ironic thing is this..When everything works, it was the best sounding system I have ever owned, And believe me I have built quite a few. I think that everything out in the marketis decent...But I gotta tell you..You can lunge the stock stereo off a building and the thing would still work...just my opinion..
