Hey guys need your help, Got a 2003 trailblazer I keep on getting the check engine light, Took it to the stealer 2 times said the code was

P0440 which is Evaporative emissions control system malfunction. Stealer keeps saying its the gas cap, They wont put a new one on so I did just to see what happened. Light came on again this morning and I have a code reader now and its the same code P0440 which is Evaporative emissions control system malfunction.. Any thoughts on what it could be? Anyone have this happen to them? Any help would be nice thanks in advance. Sorry replied to another tread.

You have a leak somewhere in the EVAP system, which includes the fuel tank.

The most common cause setting this code is fueling your car with it running.

If you do that, you need to stop. If you don't, be sure that you tighten the fual cap up until it click 4-5 times or more.

I have had to replace 2 tanks because of leaks at the filler neck where it is bonded to the tank. (Set DTC P0440)

Your truck needs to be diagnosed with the smoke machine at your dealership, by someone who knows to run it.

Hope this helps.

I had that exact same problem. The filler neck going into the tank was leaking. The dealer replaced the tank, (which included the filler neck) and everything was fine.

How can the dealership refuse to fix an emissions problem?

i had the same problem with my last car (a 99 grand am)..it only happened when i filed the tank while the engine was running, or the cap wasnt put on right (usually my fiance's fault  ) it would go away after i filled the tank back up and drove it for around 10 to 20 miles.
