hey I am wondering about the torsion bars on my 97 gmc z71 5.7 i noticed the front end is starting to sink a little. I have read that cranking up the torsion bars will lift the front end up back to normal or so. do I need any special tools? how do i go about doing this? thanks any input would be nice thanks.

Craig, Welcome to the Forum  You will see a hex bolt on the "key" that is attached to the Torsion bar near the footwells about where the trans is located, I believe it's 17mm but don't hold me to that, if you tighten the bolt it will raise the front, if you need to go more than 1" higher I would have your alignment checked, if you can not get it high enough in the front you can always put new "keys" on your truck, they cost under $50 for a set of 2.

GMC........Here will be 2 bolt heads looking straight down at you

when underneath the truck right/in by the trans. crossmember.

Do a quick search here.......Pics are posted......

Remember to turn them clockwise to raise

Counterclockwise to lower.................

Jack up the front of truck to take the weight off them....

Easier to turn !!!!

Mark the boltheads/crossmember for reference just in

case you go too far or want to return to stock settings.....geo

If you do turn up your torsion bars, make sure you get a front end alighnment. Your changing all angles of alighnment. Camber, caster and toe will be off and an incorrect toe setting will eat the outside edges of your tires the fastest followed by camber. Caster doesnt effect tire wear but how a vechicle will track down a road.

Just be ready for a stiffer ride.

....Oh, and you should get your alignment checked after you crank them. It can throw it off.

Happy cranking
