Hello all, what are your opinions on WIX filters? Any good things, bad things? Also which filter brand do you think is best no matter what type of oil you use, synthetic or petroleum based.

Thanks,

Luke

I think WIX makes a fine filter. I know peole that swear by them...

Myself however, prefer to use AC/Delco oil filters in my GM vehicles.

i have seen a link somewhere that shows where someone had bought all the filters and cut them open to have a look at the guts and sort of rate them out, i rem wix preformed good, and fram didnt i think this is where people get the anti fram attitude. personally i have used fram in my 93 silverado for years just got rid of it this year and motor was great, my father used fram on an old buick he had and put over 300 000 miles on it so really i cant say anything bad about fram. and now fram has diff filters on the market double gaurd and extra gaurd which may be an improved model since this test was done. as far as the ac/delco filter u get at the dealer ship i would suspect it is made by one of the big manufactuers but i dont know who...

I agree that wix is a good filter. NAPA filters are made by wix.

I do know that the worst filter out there is FRAM.

Actually that isn't true. Fram makes filters for numerous car companies. Honda/Acura, Chrysler (i think) and there are others i don't remember.

Wix is a good filter. They make the Napa brand as well as the Car Quest brand oil filters.

AC Delco is manufactured by Champion labs and a company in Mexico.

Follow this link. and you can read a ton of information about most of the common filters on the market.

I've always used Donaldson on all my GMC trucks from the van to the Heavy Duty Diesel with a CAT engine. I found that Donaldson's Heavy Duty or "endurance" filters to be pretty good. My van uses the High Efficency one as well, it has had no real engine problems now with 200,000 miles.

It's funny how it don't matter what form you belong to, this same question always comes up. I know that when I went to school for oil analysist for my company that same question came up. The question that came up was, the best oil filter that you can buy was? The instructor answer was, PureOne by Puralator and for all I new he work for them. But we also learned that if a company did not advertise the SPE or Single Pass efficiency rating for the partical size they trap, or the multiple pass test which is better for the life of the filter, then they weren't very good. Then I went on a quest for my self and stumbled on this guy's study of filters and his feed back. Here is the link

Now most of his conclusions are speculation and not fact but interesting just the same.

For an explanation of SPE or MPE here is a link:
