I have a 97 silverado with a problem thats been with me for 1 1/2 years now. It gets no better or worse. When the transmission is cold it sets a DTC PO785 3-2 shift solenoid problem. I have a harsh shift from 1st. to 2nd. and the transmission doesn't go into overdrive. After the transmission warms up I can turn the truck off wait for 15 seconds restaret and it shifts ok for the rest of the day or until it has cooled .

 

The dealer has charged me over $600.00 and hasn't been able to fix the problem. An updated wire harness has been installed, all of the shift solenoids have been changed with no help.. The last thing that he wanted to try was to change the valve body( Another $500.00), So I said that I thought that he was guessing and that I would wait until the thing really broke. That was a year and a half ago and it has never broke, the problem has stayed the same. Can anyone offer any help with this?????????

If vechical is out of warranty, that last place you want to take it to fix it is a dealer! It sounds like they are clueless and waste no more money with them. Have you change tranny filter and fuild is at correct level for if it is low they can do some strange thing and are worse when they as cold. I have seen dip stick calibrations off.

Did you ever get this problem resolved. I have the exact same problem with my 99 S10. Has problems getting into 1st when I start(feels almost like it is stuck in third). After I drive about 10 min then turn off the truck and restart it runs fine. If I reset the code while the engine is hot it doesnt come back on until I let it sit overnight then the first thing that happens when i turn it on the code pops back. I dont mind doing the shut off thing but I plan to give it to my son and I know he wont do the shut off thing (he will drive it until it quits)
