Free oil/filter change every 3,000 ?

Man! I'm really having problems deciding here. I've always been a synthetic oil fan and user, but the dealership that I bought my Silverado from gives free lube/oil/filter changes every 3,000 miles. Man, that savings could add up in a short period.

7 qts of Mobil 1 at $4 a quart (I still change my synthetic between 3 and 4 thousand), vs a free change every 3000 miles.

Man! What would you do??

I'd say if the changes are free go for it.  I mean, in the long run synthetic is better but w/ the money you'll save you could just buy a new engine later on.  How long do they do that for?  How many miles?

Roger, there is no reason your truck won't last at least 150K miles running conventional oils.  I would let the dealer do it, plus all work will be documented at the dealership if you should ever have a problem.

As long as I own the vehicle. Every 3000 miles.

go for it then.  I'd keep the truck forever just for that.  That's 20 bucks every 2 or 3 months.  It'll add up.  If you get it done every 2 months and have the truck for 10 years that's 1200 bucks you save.

That's why it's free....they let their mechanically (and mathematically) challenged employees work on your truck...all part of that equal opportunity deal :D

My dealer offered free service for the 1st 2 years. I still went with the synthetic oil I buy it and they change it every 3 k miles. I save on the oil filter.

can they offer you an up grade to synthetic oil if you paid the difference in the oil price... you know they have synthetic, they put it in vetts, right ... just a question

65 bucks!!!!  I mean I know mobil one aint' cheap but that's just ripping people off.  You can get a case of mobil one for around 25-30 bucks usually.  Is this there way of ripping off corvette owners who can't change there own oil?

I think I'd still go with the synthetic.  It would be tempting to take the free oil changes but you'd have to check behind the mechanics to make sure they did everything right.  Like putting a new oil filter back on, etc...

01 QUICK STORY FOR YA

I had the dealer lube the chassis of my truck (i was to lazy)  they added air to my tires (all i wanted was the lube).  Driving down the highway at 75mph i was being pulled into the center concrete divider.  Got home checked my tire pressure.  Rear drivers side was at 82psi  max on my tires are 65.  I complained guy denied it.  Stopped having my lubing and oil changes done there.

So much easier doing it yourself

$65 for synthetic oil change?  Oil isnt that much more expensive.  DO they install it a different way?  I mean when you pull in you might as well just bend over.

I know kmart by my house has a shop that does tires oil changes etc.  A mobil 1 oil change is like $29.95

Ryan,

I agree with you -- much easier doing it yourself.  I used to go to the dealer but found out the hard way it's easier doing it yourself and you know it's been done right.  82psi is a lot of pressure.  Good thing it didn't explode.

I was pissed when i found out it was at 82psi

75mph + rear tire blowout + concrete divider = no more truck and no more ryan

luckily bfg's are made strong.  if they were the fstones for sure they would have blown out
