2002 8.1 Suburban has arrived

I got a call tonight to let me know that the truck dropped off my 2002 8.1 Suburban so I should be picking it up tomorrow afternoon. It's going to the body shop next week so I'm not going to have them do much prep. They will just check the fluids and away it goes. I'll probably pull the computer right away and send it out to eliminate the 98 MPH speed govenor. I can get this back by Friday afternoon.

I'm trying to coordinate with the body shop and stereo center to get the other work done and then I'll take care of the performance mods. So far the upgrade list for this truck is -

Volant Induction

Whipple supercharger

The Other guys long tube headers

Custom computer tuning

HD hood, grill and bumper

Smooth moldings and flares

Lower half of truck painted pewter

Billet grill

Stage II HID low beams

Stage I HID high beams

PIAA Air Dam with 40 Series driving lights

Brush guard

20” Boyd’s wheels -

Pioneer in dash CD/DVD with flip-up screen

Alpine screens behind two front headrests

Pioneer 12 disk CD changer

Satellite radio receiver

3 way source adapter

Adapter for Onstar

Sony Playstation 2

Hot/Cold beverage console

I'll post updates as things move along.

Wow...parts at cost...getting to write off the expenses as business related/advertising...increased sales based on personal vehicle performance...and an awesome ride to boot.

Dang, Thomas...will you adopt me.  I've got a 2002 8.1/Alli 4x4 CC and a 96 Impala just waitin' for "daddy" to take us home!

The best of luck to you on your buildup.  I know you have been anxiously waiting for this moment.

Who are you going to get for the PCM work?  Ed Wright hasn't worked on an 8.1 yet and is just waitin' to get his hands on one.

I'm not sure what the truck runs stock but I'd like to take at least 1-1.5 seconds off the 1/4 mile times. My 2001 6.0 with a Magnecharger ran 15.87 @ 88.41. I believe the stock times for this truck is in the low 17 second range so that it's to bad. It's a big truck to get motivated off the line so the 60' times were in the 2.4-2.5 range. Based on that and the extra horsepower/torque that the big block will be starting off with I wouldn't be surprised if ETs drop into the low 15 second range. The one thing that I find amusing is that people don't expect a Suburban to be going well over 100 MPH  I was cruising along at 85-90 at 1am the other night and had something behind me that looked like a new 2 door Dodge Stealth. I gradually kept laying into it until the pedal was flat to the floor and I was doing over 120. That car gradually fell behind or gave up.

Ed Wright will be taking care of the speed govenor but they haven't done a complete reprogram on an 8.1 yet. Most of the parts can be written off but it's still money

Tom, why did you decide to go with Stage II (brighter lights) in your low beams and Stage I in your high beams? Seems like you would do the opposite - Stage II in high and Stage I in lows. I still plan on getting the lights from you. I just need to wait until my payment gets to my credit card...he-he.

Stepside Z: I'll have a picture of the new truck today. Actually I was surprised by the way it looked because I didn't see the 2001 before the bottom was painted. I was at a trade show in Las Vegas when the truck arrived so I had someone drop it off at the bodyshop. It's amazing how much the two tone changes the look of the truck.

C3Sierra: The low beams are on most of the time so the stage II will be more noticeable (get more use for the $). High beams are probably on less than 5% of the time so the Stage I will work good there. Plus all 4 lights will be on when the highs are activated so that will throw off plenty of light.

I put about 40 miles on the truck yesterday and can notice that it has alot more torque than the 6.0 (more responsive on the bottom end).

I'll be saving everything that comes off the truck. Never know if it will need to go back on someday.

Here is a good before and after comparison -

2002 Sub that I just picked up. This is also what the '01 looked like when it came from the factory -

I'll post pictures of the '02 after it comes back from the body shop next week.

They used to do them in two tone but stopped after 2000. It would have been alot easier.
